Collins RT or LG?

RT. This season Collins played against JPP, Mack, Graham, Beasley, Miller, ect. He held his own against that group very well. The only one that truly got the best of him was Miller in week 2 when Collins was still adjusting to the position. He's a mauling run blocker. He's nasty. I love him.

he finished the season very strong at rt. no sense moving him again.

Leave him at RT. He was getting pretty good by the end of the year

he handled his business at OT.
let him continue to grow, improve there.

re-sign Jonathan Cooper....draft a OG...may the best man win.
if Cooper leaves, sign a vet f/a...I like Earl Watford,Az.....and still draft a G....let them battle it out.Heck, maybe Chaz Green comes in nasty,hungry...ready to battle to get his good name back.

But it just isn't smart to jerk Collins around....leave him at T.

RT, we need to let the kid get used to one position. I will say we need to get a better swing tackle and bring in someone to compete with Jonathan Cooper for LG.

Were

Tyron, Leary, Frederick, Martin, and Free > Tyron, Cooper, Frederick, Martin, and Collins ?

What do you guys say. I haven't looked up the stats yet, but I will

We had a decent one until they ruined him by moving him to guard

Definitely but I'd also like to see Zack Martin get reps at LT in the summer. Do it like they did Larry Allen back in the day. Get him ready to play there as much as you can should Tyron go down for a length of time and you don't have a backup OT who can play there at a reasonable level and it has to be a pretty good level considering it's the QB's blindside.

Probably not a popular opinion but I think Martin can be a solid LT in a pinch. Certainly better than the crap we saw there this year when Tyron couldn't play. I also think he's such a stellar OG and has enough experience there that he can afford to miss some time there during the summer. I don't think he needs the reps.

I like the idea of getting more flexibility among the linemen, including the starters. It seems like they had no problem doing it with backups, but wouldn't touch the starters.

Like you said, Martin is smart enough and experienced enough to handle taking reps there without it negatively affecting him.

They could take notes from a team like the Saints, who have plugged and played various linemen like Andrus Peat all over the place so they had the flexibility to deal with injuries on their line without it falling apart. Novel concept I know.

Yeah, I think this thread talks about a moot point. Collins is this team's right tackle now. Forget about any move back to guard.

Totally agree. But we do need an awesome swing tackle. Both he and Smith are injury prone evidently......
We already have an awesome swing tackle in the eyes of Garrett & Linehan.

CHAZ GREEN BABY!

One good off-season and we can get him down to just 3 sacks given up per game.

He was better at LG but Garrett loves fixing what's not broken...soon he'll be at C
Was he better at G or was G just a easier position?
Lots of tackles play guard early on because it’s an easier position
Guard is an easier position to fill, an easier position to help out
He may be a better guard than tackle but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a good tackle and there is the issue we paid him to be a tackle

Solid post risen. I’ve had the same thoughts

No he wasn’t better at LG.

Collins the second half of the year at RT played the best football he’s ever played as a Cowboy.

And that’s without even practicing.

We'll have to see how he does in training camp. I thought he held is own against some BAMF edge rushers this season but he did have several mental lapses and often times wasn't in position to make his block. If you find someone in the draft for whatever reason then you can play around with it but he looks fine moving forward.

Obviously a 1st rd. talent but I think he's physically built to be a guard. Arms too short (for a tackle) and not the excellent tackle footspeed. He played well later in the season simply because of his talent. He can play anywhere but where he has graded good to well at RT he could be an All Pro at guard. He's out of position.
that short arm BS is just that. JOE THOMAS has shorter arms then Collins. Only if you have T-rex arms like Costa is it a REAL FACTOR. Collins footspeed while not ELITE is more than good enough. By the end of the season he was doing very well

He’s one of the highest paid RTs in the game. Would be stupid to move him to guard. He’s not an all pro guard.

No. He is not one of the highest paid RTs in the league. He's not even top 10

I'm betting the Cowboys will decide to leave La'el Collins at RT, regardless of what the fans might prefer. He's there for the better or worse and they won't want to disturb his development there unless he proves ill suited to play RT. He hasn't reached his potential as yet, so it's not like he can't or won't improve with further development. Hopefully, the C'boys management will decide to draft a swing tackle at some point to fill a backup role. and the same scenario for LG. I think WR and LB might be given higher priorities, though, depending upon how the draft proceeds.
