Collins RT or LG?

Definitely but I'd also like to see Zack Martin get reps at LT in the summer. Do it like they did Larry Allen back in the day. Get him ready to play there as much as you can should Tyron go down for a length of time and you don't have a backup OT who can play there at a reasonable level and it has to be a pretty good level considering it's the QB's blindside.

Probably not a popular opinion but I think Martin can be a solid LT in a pinch. Certainly better than the crap we saw there this year when Tyron couldn't play. I also think he's such a stellar OG and has enough experience there that he can afford to miss some time there during the summer. I don't think he needs the reps.

I was thinking this same thing the other day. It's easier to plug in a backup guard than a backup tackle because the tackle is often isolated, especially in pass protection. With Smith's back problems, having Martin shift over in a pinch and plugging in the backup guard would seem to make sense.

Thinking about the offense tonight and it all starts up front with the o-line so this should be a big priority this off-season.

While I think the organization will leave LC at RT I'm curious as to what you guys think.

I think they like him there and are content with what he brings. Plus I think they will look to reward him for his efforts in playing injured and they don't want to move him around again. I think he definitely improved as the season went on and I think he will get better.

I'm thinking he has a higher ceiling at LG than he does at RT and I think in a big picture view I just like him better at G depending of course on if we can find a capable RT. I think he can be good there but I think the best 5 we can run out there would have him at LG.

But if you move him back to G then you need to find 2 guys to play RT. One a starter and the other a swing tackle. From what we saw last year I don't know that they can accomplish that.

Collins got better as the season progressed at RT and should be left there. I think we should re-sign Cooper to play left guard and then work on grooming some backups who can step in if needed.

Looney isn't bad as a backup and I'd bring him back. Bell needs to be gone and Green needs to be coached back to what he was showing in 2016. However, Green only has one more year so we need to add a tackle to groom as his replacement and a guard, probably in the draft.

I've got us looking in the draft with our 10 picks for (not necessarily in this order) a WR, DT, possibly S (would prefer a vet), TE, 2 OL, 3 LBs (that leaves one to two spots where we can draft a CB, RB, FB or DE). If the draft fell right for the positions, I'd want the WR/DT combo in the first and second rounds, a third-round TE, the LBs and OL alternated over the next few rounds and the CB/RB/FB/DE grabbed in the last couple of picks. If the safety is added in, then it would push the TE choice back if there's an equal player available in the third.

Dunno what you guys think you're seeing....he had a bad year at RT outside of a couple decent games. He gave up consistent pressure and continued to do so down the stretch. He was okay at LG and I think that's where he should go back to. I'm sure he'll be left at RT so I can only hope that he somehow improves but I doubt it; I just don't think he's a tackle at all.

What do we need? We need a new Leary right NOW! We are not opening up the running lanes like we did with Leary and
that was key to making this offense go into hyper-speed. A new LG should be a priority this year and one that can mow down
his competition and reach the 2nd level.

Leary's absence was obvious in the run and pass game. However, we can't keep making OL a priority over other positions on the team....Leary was a guy we picked up for simple plug and play and got really lucky in finding a guy who developed into a top 5-7 LG. We'll need to do this again at LG (I would prefer to move Collins back there but it's not happening) and it's unlikely that player will be as good as Leary but need to find someone better than Cooper.

You are full of crap. So there is another opinion. One is worth just as much as another.

cooper is just fine. and he will be relatively cheap to resign. SO far you are 0-2 as regards evaluation of the O line. Care to continue?

Your first statement was that one opinion is as good as another (right after saying I'm "full of crap") and then contradict yourself in your second statement by saying I'm 0-2 in my evaluation of the OL...I can tell that debating you will definitely be worthwhile. Yes, Cooper will be very cheap to resign because he sucks at his job....not enough to destroy a game plan but he adds no value on the field. There is a reason why running to his side of the field didn't work well at all while running behind Martin was one of the surest bets in the league. In this age of the NFL where teams across the league are starving for capable Oline players, ask yourself why a guy like Cooper could be so cheap.

I would debate Collins with you but you really offered nothing there in the way of substance to even debate. Here I'll start though. He doesn't have the footwork of a tackle and as I stated before, gives up constant pressure to Dak's right side....and sometimes pressure is enough...it's not always about sacks. He's also no help from the tackle spot in the run game. Remember after his rookie season when everyone was posting highlights plays of his run blocking? Notice there were none of those this year? It's not necessarily about the highlights but more so about the fact that he can't get downfield for run blocks at all from the tackle position due to playing against more athletic players. He was better suited for the LG spot where bad footwork isn't that big of a deal and where he can use his superior strength to move guys (not to mention that he would typically be facing the worst pass rusher on the Dline from the LG spot).

all you said was Collins sucked. That is really SPECIFIC right? and frankly most of this is just your opinion which has no support from anyone worth listening too. so dry up and blow away

Worthwhile indeed....

My $0.02 is that Collins looked like a decent RT this year. Wasn't terrible. Wasn't great.

I suspect he doesn't have the feet to ever be a Top 10 right tackle. That's OK -- the Cowboys don't need All-Pros at every OL position.

It's amazing how draft position influences how we view players. Had Collins been a 1st round pick, as expected, before his unfortunate legal issues, he would be considered a mild disappointment at this stage -- entering Year 4 of his career.

LCollins more than held up as a top RT, even with a back injury...... he only gave up 5 sacks all year agaisnt the top DE/OLB schedule in football........NEXT

Cooper did fine as LG but is easily replaceable, just like Leary and should be a target early in the Day 3 of the Draft
Everyone looks good between Tron and TFred

No. He is not one of the highest paid RTs in the league. He's not even top 10
Depends on how you look at the deal..........in new money he is at 7.7m before 2.5m in incentives and that puts him 5th at RT

If you count it as an extension to his rookie salary of 616k in 2017 then he is top 12

Rt, we messed with the chemistry enough this past spring. Collins came along pretty well despite a foot injury that he just had surgery for. I'm for keeping Cooper at a fair price too. My fix and pet peeve is swing tackle. Please improve on Green Bell pepper

he handled his business at OT.
let him continue to grow, improve there.

re-sign Jonathan Cooper....draft a OG...may the best man win.
if Cooper leaves, sign a vet f/a...I like Earl Watford,Az.....and still draft a G....let them battle it out.Heck, maybe Chaz Green comes in nasty,hungry...ready to battle to get his good name back.

But it just isn't smart to jerk Collins around....leave him at T.

I agree with leaving him at RT. Did well, growth through the year.

Didn't Cooper have a knee injury in the last game?? Same knee he had problems before? I think we need to sign him on the cheap side $$$ if we bring him back.

How is this even a question? Seriously? The dude was lights out at RT. Leave him there. Remember how free looked?

Wow! just wow!

agree.
we also need to draft a OG...just in case.
