Cowboys interviewing OL coach Paul Alexander

at least he gives us valuable playoff coaching experience.

Look, its a make or break year in 2018 for Garrett and coaches can see that, its going to be tough to get quality assistants.

After over two decades, The Enquirer has learned from multiple team sources that Paul Alexander and the team will part ways.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed that in his afternoon press conference on Wednesday.

In a statement released by the team, Alexander said "I’d like to thank the Bengals for the career of a lifetime as I was honored to coach and work with the tremendous men in this organization. Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis are great men who I love and respect. But, as coach Jim McNally passed the baton to me 23 years ago, it’s time for me to do the same. It’s just time. On behalf of my family, we are both grateful and excited to discover our next NFL experience.”

Alexander, the Bengals' assistant head coach and offensive line coach, began his career in Cincinnati in 1994 as the tight ends coach before moving to the offensive line.

The Bengals produced Pro Bowl tackles in Andrew Whitworth and Willie Anderson in his tenure, but over the last two seasons, 2015 first-round pick Cedric Ogbuehi and second-round pick Jake Fisher and 2016 fifth-round selection Christian Westerman did not develop into front-line starters.

Since 2013, the Bengals have drafted eight offensive linemen, but only center Russell Bodine became a consistent member of the line. Bodine is an unrestricted free agent..........

it will be hard to find a good o-line coach who can deal with garrett's 90's offense.

Maybe he can share some tips with Garrett that he learned from Marvin Lewis on how to get a lifetime contract.

Are you kidding? Garrett wrote the book on it. Or at least Garrett and Lewis were co-authors.

Garrett seems like he is already well on his way to lifetime employment.

Cincy, re OL Drafted 5 1st rounders, 3 2nd rounders and 4 3rd rounders in his time and only TWO made a pro bowl.....

Could have more to do with the GM than the coach.

Coaches can push for a specific player but generally coaches, especially assistant coaches, aren’t in the talent evaluation business.

Correct. The 2 go hand in hand but he there to coach up talent....

From the Archer article on ESPN.

"A source said Tom Cable, who was fired by the Seattle Seahawks and was a college teammate of offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is also a candidate."

I'd feel better about this choice. From wikipedia:

Seattle's line once ranked as the third-youngest in the NFL, but with injuries to rookie James Carpenter, John Moffitt, and Russell Okung, the Seahawks' offensive line finished as the seventh-youngest in the league. Despite that, Cable plugged away and maintained a solid unit as Seattle’s line paved the way for Marshawn Lynch's career-year with 285 carries, 1,204 yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns. Lynch also led the league the last half of the season with 941 yards and nine touchdowns, rushing for 100-plus in six of the last nine games, and became Seattle’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Shaun Alexander in 2005. Cable won his first Super Bowl ring as an assistant coach to the Seahawks.

Cable has become synonymous in recent years for transitioning players with little or no experience at offensive line and quickly making them into NFL starting-caliber offensive lineman. His first player was J. R. Sweezy, a collegiate defensive end that Cable drafted in 2012 and switched to an offensive guard in seven months. The second was Garry Gilliam, whom Cable signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Gilliam had one year of experience as a collegiate offensive tackle and was a tight end since age 7. He started his first game in five months. The most recent and dramatic is George Fant, who was a basketball power forward in college and played tight end for a single year. The Seahawks signed him as an undrafted free agent after Cable insisted and he won the Seahawks' starting left tackle position in less than 20 months.[4]

On January 10, 2018, Cable was fired after the Seahawks went 9-7 and failed to qualify for the playoffs.[5]

Well, they had five games where their QB passed for under 200 yards. Didn’t even have one game where the QB threw over 300 yards..

So this guy is used to a horrible passing game..

And 11 games where their rushing attack didn’t get close to breaking 100 yards...

And used to a horrible rushing attack..

I'm good with it.
Have a buddy who coaches oline here at local h.s.,LOVES this guy. Most do.

Maybe they shouldn't have been drafted so high? Which ones have left the Bengals to become all-pros?
Whitworth was good in Cincinnati, outside of him who succeeded when leaving?
