The 'Wow!' Signal Turns 40:

On the evening of August 15th, 1977, the now-legendary 'Wow!' signal was picked up by a radio telescope at Ohio State University and
has baffled scientists ever since.

Jerry Ehman was the man behind the notorious note which called attention to something weird that he noticed in the data when he studied
it a few days later and scribbled 'Wow!' next to the circled numbers on the readout.

The signal stood out as something which defied explanation and, since the goal of the project was to search for ET messages, it
instantly became, almost by default at the time, the best possible clue that intelligent life may be out there trying to contact us.

However, several attempts over the years to find the signal again proved fruitless and only lead to the 'Wow!' moment becoming an
even bigger enigma to astronomers.

Over the years, numerous theories have been put forward as to the source of the signal, including a controversial hypothesis advanced
a few months ago that the event was caused by comets.

While seemingly rather promising, even that theory was met with disagreement from astronomers, leaving the 'Wow!' signal firmly
entrenched in the realm of mystery on its 40th anniversary.

Since that its been four decades since the signal was detected, one would assume that it was some kind of one-off celestial event and
not an ET beacon.

Then again, until and unless the mystery is solved once and for all, there remains a sliver of hope that just maybe the 'Wow!' signal
was a long distance call from an ET race that's still waiting to hear back from us.

..I wonder why instead of just pointing the scopes back at that particular area of space and just listening for another signal...we just send our own "WOW" signal right back at them...of course it could be much to late now!...jus' sayin'...

Recently I read that they finally figured out where that "WOW!" signal came from. It came from one specific asteroid that emits that exact signal.

lol. And amazing how the lenses from the camera's filming that don't somehow melt being so close.

Why does the camera have to be close? Telephoto lenses work just as well on the sun as anything else.

However, I'm still curious as to WHY you think that the camera/lense had to be closer to the sun to get that video? For all I know, you might be right. That's why I'm very interested in your perspective on this.

I don't know if it has been mentioned in this multi-page thread, but "SecureTeam10" on Youtube is a really good UFO type of source of informations...he just hit 1M subscribers a few days ago I think...

How real video is captured and looks.

I've always believed Ufo's were real.....along with Bigfoot.
Sightings go back to far...they all can't be made up.
1,000's and 1,000's have reported seeing "something".....they all can't be lies.
Why are they always ridiculed for asking "what was that"???
Why did the gov say...before the Roswell crash, that flying saucers don't exist...only to announce later that they had captured the very thing they just claimed doesn't exist??
Then change it to a weather balloon???
and why are they always dismissed as something stationary....venus,jupiter,etc...but witnesses CLEARLY reported seeing them moving....like...FLYING OBJECTS.
They are real.
The real question is are they "ours".....(secret space program, military secret craft....time travelers from our future) or "theirs"(aliens).

and why the hell have we not been back to the moon.

I believe that U.F.O.s are real. What they really are is debatable. Aliens from another planet? Not without concrete proof.

There is a great chance that something else exists out there. If you have any idea about the universe you realize it is gigantic. Gigantic doesn't even cover it. The universe is so incredibly large your mind can't even technically comprehend it. Now, to believe that all of that is empty, well, the odds are strongly against you. Still, to think that an advanced species, so advanced they can transverse time and space, are going to stop here to take a picture of the Statue of Liberty, seems silly to me.

How about interdimensional beings? Why would an alien need to be from this dimension? Think about that one.

anyone advanced enough to get from there to here would only take one look at Earth and then move on. Nothing to see here.

The possibility is intriguing, but I'd need some evidence.

Yes, they're up there watching TV. They will be leaving though, Roseanne is back and everybody knows aliens hate her because her voice causes their over-sized brains to hurt. I may hitch a ride with them if they have whiskey.

...I've seen two UFOs in my lifetime.....One a bright orb at night, and the other also at night....it was very much like this topics opening introduction picture!...
It was very close, and very large....I know it doesn't look like it, but the first thought that came to mind was....the "Starship Enterprise" lol....and if it was a military craft ,(and that is a possibility) then it was rigged for "silent running,"...not the slightest sound from such a large craft!...That was in 2014 by the way, about 10:45 pm ....right over my freaking house".....cool eh?:omg:

That sounds cool . if aliens flew over my house I would be afraid that they would gang probe me.:muttley:i think there has been ancient folklore that talk about super intelligent beings helping early primitive man develop technology to survive. I believe it was the Mayans.I think there is a book of Enoch that was part of the bible but wasn' t cannonized talked about the same thing.I think a lot of people see UFOs hovering around ,diving into and rising out the ocean.I think Florida has been a hot bed for UFOs sightings, which make sense because Florida is close to the Bermuda triangle.I'm not sure what to believe . I guess I consider myself skeptical yet open minded at the same time. If that makes sense

Hard to fathom that our minuscule, atom of existence in the vast universe holds the only form of intelligent life. Glad the other forms of life, if they do exist, are not flying around in plain sight.

"There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is in the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone."

The BBT has always intrigued me. I tend to believe in it but have many questions. What surrounded it to "bang" into? If our universe is always expanding, what is it expanding into?

That opening scene(or is it closing scene) in Men in Black where there is something playing with marbles and one of them represents our universe has always peaked my mind.

Are we in a universe inside another universe?? I can go on and on with questions that can never be answered.......

A theoretical physics professor once told us a fable/story. He stated that if we could somehow get in a spaceship that traveled faster than light speed, we would eventually reach a point in space where we could look back(theoreticaly) and watch the dinosaurs walking on Earth. That will always stick with me until the day I die.

I just find this stuff fascinating of "what is out there"...............

I remember that scene. At another forum I visit someone brought up the question if there is more than one universe and possibly multiple dimensions. Someone else brought up that scene from men and black too
