Zimmer never blitzed when he was here and on 3rd and 3 CBs played 10 yards off.

When he did blitz they were easily telegraphed. I think Marvin Lewis is a huge reason for the difference we see now

^^This. His defense changed once he became the DC for Lewis. His defense is much more aggressive now.

Zimmer is a real coach. Zimmer is a legit tough guy who stood up to Jerry when necessary. He has balls.

He has no need to come here...the fans in Minnesota already love him, he's got the support of everyone in the organization it seems, a new stadium, etc. Just because it's the "Cowboys" doesn't mean that established coaches will be willing to leave a good situation at their current team. This isn't college where a HC at a mid-tier school will leave for the allure of a big-time program like Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State.

IOW, he's not just a pretend warrior who only charms the media and makes clichéd t-shirts.

He is better than what we have but to be fair he also was telling the media all kinds of crap about parcells and the team to save his own tail in that 06 season. He was telling galloway and werder all the stuff parcells did wrong and then they reported it as zimmer being limited by personnel and scheme.

he even did it on the radio with deion back when he had his show. Right after the 06 season ended he went on 103.3 with deion and whined about the lack of corners who could cover and how parcells wouldn't let him call his plays etc.

I also liked zimmer until that day. Putting two and two together after that it was obvious he was the guy giving out information to the media who were obsessed with the cowboys for various reasons in 06.

Still a great coach and I am pulling for him today but he hasn't been on a staff that has won a playoff game since 98.

Here was the Zimmer defense ranking from 2000-2006 according to FO.com.

2000: 22nd
2001: 20th
2002: 13th
2003: 5th
2004: 25th
2005: 12th (switched to 3-4 defense that season)
2006: 14th

Not exactly a '#1 defense.' And this was a team that drafted defensive players in the first round for something like 8 drafts in a row (when we had first round picks).

His best years were 2003 where the defense folded like a cheap run in the last month. The 2004 defense held the record for most points allowed in Cowboys history. And the 2006 defense started off well, but got exposed by Sean Payton who showed that we could not cover any back coming out of the backfield...even if it was a fullback.

The year after he was gone, his Atlanta Falcons defense ranked 28th.

The big problem that Zimmer had was getting pressure on the QB here. Once he went to the Bengals he had some really good defenses and I think it's obvious that he learned well from Marvin Lewis. He deserved the fans ire here because when he was coaching here...he simply wasn't a good D-Coordinator. Now he's a really good defensive mind. Stuff like that happens with coaches that have to go to other teams and learn more from other coaches.

I'm happy that he's successful...although he hasn't won a playoff game as a coach since the Clinton Administration.

He kept gary gibbs also.

He actually recommended Jerry make Gary Gibbs the head coach when he left.

He had a lot of talent. they struggled at corner, then drafted a bunch of them who couldn't play.

he is a good coach and has proven that over time. I just can't get over him running to the media to complain about parcells.

When I hear all these national people talking about how he learned so much from parcells I Laugh. I am sure its true but in the moment he didnt seem to excited.

He fired turner last year for similar type of behavior and disagreements over the scheme.

Completely agree. Lewis may not be much of a HC but I heard Zimmer say in an interview he learned more under Lewis in Cincy than anywhere else he has coached. I guess this is Zimm 2.0 It doesn't hurt having a D stocked with Pro Bowl talent. Happy for him though.

I believe the GROG movement is very justified. GROZ? Not so much.
