I like Jackson too. He's probably the best we've got left.

Yeah, makes sense for him to take over the secondary from Baker. Like Gary Brown too. He's probably staying. I've stumped for a Wade Wilson replacement for years. I was somewhat cool on Dooley too. To be honest Stash, Linehan is my pet peeve.

Good point.

Has anybody thought for a second that maybe Dallas is not the dream job all of us fans think it is?

Maybe Eberflus knows Garrett is a complete idiot and only has a job due to Jerry being "comfortable" and knows this team is going nowhere. So maybe he looks at Indy and sees McDaniel and thinks "Patriot bloodline". So where do I want to be, coaching in Dallas with this goober trying to prove he is not an idiot or in Indy with a guy that has rings on his fingers.

Seems like he decide to work for the guy with rings on his fingers.......................cant say I blame him, I would have made the same decision

He better hope Andrew Luck gets over the shoulder issues. For a guy that was a "can't miss", Luck has missed a lot. It's not like McDaniels has been super as a HC and the Colts have major problems on the O-line protecting Luck. Eberfluss must like a challenge

Agreed. Next to Garrett, he's my least favorite. And much like him, he's pass happy and will drop his running game the first chance he gets, no matter how strong it is or how well it's working. Two peas in a pod.

According to this the Cowboys offered him the job and would give Marinelli the role of assistant head coach, but Eberflus declined because he respects Marinelli and didn't want to step on his toes.

Silly, emotional decision by the front office chases a 51 year coach out the door because they didn't have the heart to fire a 69 year old guy whose performance they acknowledged as insufficient.

But as long as Jerry's comfortable...

McDaniel has been patiently waiting to cherry pick his next HC job. His error in Denver was failing to acquire Matt Cassel and pissing of Jay Cutler in the process. After he cut Cutler and drafted tebow with a 1st round pick, he was basically screwed trying to win with Kyle Orton. No way he makes that mistake again. If there was any doubt about Luck's shoulder, he wouldn't take the job.

Taking nonstop L's with coaching decisions.
LOL...pretty much this! But as much as this will be seen as a less than tactile transition of coaching staff by the FO, it also reeks to something else. Coaching staff members are not wanting to stick around. I know Idgit is going to temp-ban me (or worse) but this just has to scream a lack of confidence in Garrett's team by everyone around him not named the Jones'. But I could be wrong..

I saw it as being potentially awkward being the new DC while the former DC is still on the staff via a "promotion". then it could come down to would Rod want to have input in how ME dialed up his gameplan?
I'm not too upset with ME leaving. Nor am I bashing the Cowboys for letting him "walk".
Their jobs and responsibilities wasn’t going to change, just the titles.

It also happens that coaches move into other roles and make room for others to take their old role, but Eberflus said no to that because he didn't want to step on Marinelli's toes, so it doesn't make sense to think he would be okay stepping on Marinelli's toes by being the cause of him being fired altogether. It's an illogical argument.
No it's really not.

He does t want to be apart of JG’s stuff any longer. The dude is a weak head coach. I am wondering what type of “respect” he has amongst his peers and players/former players.

Of course, it's a negative on the Cowboys if they offer him the job and a negative if they don't. Some posters are here to create a complaint no matter what the Cowboys do.

It's like with O-Line coach ... fans trashed the Cowboys for going with an inexperienced Marc Colombo as O-Line coach (even though they actually didn't - they just decided to get a head start on the complaining), and then when they actually hired a very experienced head coach the fans trash the Cowboys for that.
Same ole same ole. Lol

Sometimes ya just gotta laugh at the mob.

Maybe but it’s possible there is hope in the unknown in Indy.

Everyone knows what Garrett is at this point in his career.

Good question.

Read a Seattle forum and it appears Carroll was just looking to really shake up the staff. When he first got the Seattle job he was a roster churner, never wanting to let things get stale.

It seems he’s applying that logic to his coaches now as he basically took a flame thrower to his entire staff and wants just fresh voices in his coaching offices.

Novel concept for us Cowboys fans.

It sounds like you're higher on Eberflus than I am. I've heard the rest of the staff really likes him, but if he were really hot stuff, he could have been promoted at any point. He pre-dated Kiffin, and the elevation of Marinelli.

Ryan loved him and brought him with him.
When we changed to Kiffin, he kept him.
Marinelli kept him.
And now McDaniels wants him, and we wanted to keep him.

Seems like a lot of people are high on Eberflus. I am not surprised that somehow we managed not to keep an up and coming guy, instead keeping two dead enders who failed as HCs. Garrett knows how to protect himself.

Bc they put themselves in a bind by protecting Garrett and firing Marinelli. Could you imagine how that would look around the league for this puppet to get a 4th d-coordinator despite the defense being decent last season?

Another thing is Jerry HATES paying coaches who aren't coaching. It's not a coincidence that everyone left on the staff has money owed to them and everybody else that was let go are free agents.
Bingo. If you let Eberflus be the DC and "promote" Marinelli, you're not paying any more salary and you're not paying a coach to sit at home. That's why this was Jerry's "solution" to the problem.

Just shows Jerry's attitude towards coaching. I don't blame Matt one bit for getting out of here.
