Our receiving core? Do they scare anybody?

With TWill leaving possibly and Brice Butler almost assuredly..

Examining Dez and Beasley and Witten and their success on the field in 2017..

What do we need to do?

Who do we keep and how do we improve?

We just overhauled the secondary and added Taco on the DL.

And I know Zeke is a factor in the passing game..

but he's out of the conversation..for now.

To me we have no speed at the position and declining catches, drops and holding penalties by the WRs and TEs was definately up.

How do we clean this up?

Do the Cowboys even see this as a problem?

I have heard nothing on this issue at all.

What do you guys see.?

Teams were really double teaming Dez in the 2nd half of the season. So he was scaring somebody. Beasley was getting open but either Dak would not find him, the lanes would be clogged up because the spacing in our scheme is too narrow or the protection would not hold up. T-Will was not wanted by anybody in the offseason and that's why we got him 'cheap' according to the experts.

I would search for a legitimate X-receiver in the draft in the first round. Dez got really lazy with his catching technique. Hopefully this will motivate Dez and get some of the double teams off him and stretch the field vertically and allow Beasley more room to run underneath. We need to move on from Witten. If Rico could make that progression and is healthy, it would have a massive impact on the passing game because a TE that can stretch the field would work so well with Dak and help Beasley as well.

I still think a lot of this could be resolved with better coaching. Better spacing in the schematics, less use of curl and hitch routes, more plays ran from different formations would go a long way. But, with Garrett...I'll believe it when I see it.

Certain dynamics are missing.

Like mainly all of them.

1 - Need a true dominant Julio Jones type numero uno. Easier wished upon than done, but can we make Dez more effective?

2- Need a true speed threat, that can get on top of a defense, Cowboys haven't had that since probably Rocket Ismail. Without that, Dez will never be effective.

3 - Supporting cast. Not much faith in what we have, but possibly adding the (#2 speed threat), transitions the current ranks.

Synopsis - easier,, maybe to obtain that #2, than try revamping the entire position.

They might if they were in a better system. The wr corps is connected to the passing attack however and that with dak and under garrett and linehan has been lame.

Until we get some real speed in our receiving core, they will scare noone, especially without the threat of Zeke.

Maybe we can bring in Jigsaw to scare someone...... bet his puppet is faster than our core.

Twill just signed a new deal so he isn't going anywhere.

I know for one nobody is scared of getting beat deep. Nobody. Until the scheme changes all those questions will be left unanswered. But this offense needs a new TE and some speed! Outside of Zeke it's slow as molasses.

Twill isn’t going anywhere
Butler is probably gone
We need to add a speed guy in the draft but may not be in the first
Lots of things can happen in the draft and the top 18 will change some between now and the draft but right now looks like LB is where the talent may be in the 1st

We need Rico to be what he looked like he could be in camp last year
That solves one big issue

I bet some teams were a little scared of Brice. He has all the measurables to be a threat, and he was producing as one as well. Too bad we didn't throw to him more.

Teams are a little scared of Beasley, but as long as they can shade a LB as part of their coverage on him, they're fine.

Dez and Williams? No.

To be fair to Dez, at least, part of that lack of fear is the lack of fear in the *combination* of our OC, our QB, and Dez.

The lack of fear in the group as a whole has a lot to do with the OC and QB. OC doesn't make the most of what we've got, and QB was having big accuracy problems for much of the season.

No teams are scared of our passing game as a whole. And they shouldn't be. And our only real speed threat deep is almost surely leaving. None of our players are bad, but it's a bad combination.
