Jerry on JG and the Eagles

Unlike many members of Cowboys Nation who are having a hard time stomaching the Eagles making it to the Super Bowl, Jones said he was impressed with Philly’s ability to win despite the injuries they sustained, including their starting quarterback Carson Wentz. “I’m impressed to understand the challenge it is to adjust and come up with a different way to use different personnel and win the games,” Jones said. “They did it and it’s worthy of recognition. I don’t want to get into favorites, but I’m really proud that we have an NFC East team in there. That does make the difference. We’ve played them twice and know what kind of defense they’ve got. I wish them well.”

And addressing Jason Garrett’s status, Jones was asked if his head coach is on the “hot seat” after a 9-7 season and missing the playoffs for the fifth time as a full-time head coach. Jones understood the question, but didn’t exactly agree. “He’s not on my hot seat,” he said. Jones reminded the group that Garrett isn’t far removed from the NFL Coach of the Year after the 2016 season and said he hopes Garrett can win that again next year, knowing what kind of team success that would signify.

Why didn't the media ask this followup question: Pederson in his 2nd season made it to the Super Bowl with injuries to key players. JG in 2016 with a fully healthy team couldn't even win one playoff game. How is JG winning Coach of the Year relevant when he couldn't even win one playoff game as the number one seed with a healthy team?

So much for the stupid idea some people had for the concept that Jones cares that the Eagles and Lurie could win a Super Bowl.

He’s hoping? That gives me hope that Jerry is saying JG is not a guarantee to get his job back in 2019 if he has another unsuccessful season.

Hoping for JG winning COY again is an ambiguous goal. The 2016 season wasn't successful. We were the number one seed with a healthy team and we lost to the Packers who were depleted by injuries. Jerry has really lowered the bar on what is a successful season.

Lurie is Jerry's peer, we are not. I don't understand rooting for the Eagles to win because it will get Jerry's attention. It is actually the opposite, Jerry will probably feel happy for his friend.

I would like to think the owner of the franchise has a competitive spirit versus a division rival.

But then again, I am not a rich old man who hangs in the same circles.

If so, great. I just don't want anyone to ever post that they think that Jerry Jones actually cares and will be all motivated to win.

He doesn't care. Has not cared for a long time. He cares even less now that he has a gold jacket.

Now, all he wants is a legacy for his family.

I'm sure he wants to win and beat them, but not as a hated rival (which they are) but much like the way you want to beat your buddy at Madden or a game of hoops. I don't know why you guys think the owners hate each other. It is quite the opposite, a billionaires players club.

making even more money
I think he wants to win but only his way.

Once you reach that plateau money isn’t as important as ego and legacy. Jerry wants to prove he can win without HC who’d recieve more credit than him.

The money and revenue stream just put him in position to do it his way without forcing him to change.

At least JJ acknowledged the fact that coaches have the ability to adjust to the strengths of different personnel after injuries and be successful.
I wasn’t positive he was aware of that concept.
Maybe he can share that knowledge with his HC/OC/DC

The thing that struck me was his statement that we have all the receivers we need. So no speed merchant???

I guess he could be blowing smoke about that though.
