News: The reasoning behind bringing Dez Bryant back in 2018

Dez will take a paycut or he will be gone. Dez might play hard ball and don't want to take a paycut.
I’m betting neither happen but we shall see. Don’t see any reason he would accept a pay cut just like the majority of players wouldn’t accept it and until you have an option to replace him he knows he’s not getting cut

Dez isn't going anywhere. We have a ton of money under the cap and the issues from 2017 are all things that can be corrected - scheme, timing with Dak, deep threat opposite him, health, etc.

We need to sign Martin and DLaw. Then there is Hitchens and a few others at issue.

We don't have that much cap room particularly if DLaw is franchised.

i'm more concerned with keeping the money for signing irving and hitchens. I don't see dez improving at this point in his career. he hears the footsteps too much now, imo. he spends as much time looking to see who's going to hit him on a play as he does looking for the ball. he had a great career catching contested balls. but the result was too many injuries.
We have over 50m in cap space...... it is not a problem this year

The money saved extending ZMartin will cover Hitchens
Cooper is 2m
D Irving is only 4.1m
Tagging DLaw is a waste for cap space alone..... his cap hit will be 1/2 with a huge extension and 1/2 next year..... even he is gets hurt........18m for 2 years vs 37m with the tag

That still leaves 30m for DMoncrief, Poe and TRawls or JMcKinnon

They are 23m under right now and that is before the annual restructures

And franchising DLaw is $17m. ~$5m for draft picks.

We don't have a lot of cap room.

And I get that you want to push your desired outcome but you should accept that the franchise tag is a likely outcome given DLaw's lack of history of elite production and the potential market for his services.

We have over 50m easy and up to 72m with a couple cuts

You really have no concept of the Cap if you mention Draft picks

You also need to accept that your plan of restructuring everyone is never going to happen too.

MIA pulled the tag and let OVernon walk................. took the 17m in cap space and re-signed Wake and got a 3rd round pick i n CB CTankersly and got equal production

If DLaw wants to play hardball DAL can let him go and sign ZAnsah for an 8m cap hit and get a 3rd for DLaw

I am figuring with where we are drafting that we will probably need about $3 million for our picks this year. That might be high depending on if the boys trade down

2.5m is a safe bet at 19

OJ Howard had a 2m cap hit last year at 19 .....Rule of 51 drops that to 1.5m

biggest reason....replace him with who?
no one will trade for him cause they think we'll cut him.
he is better than any f/a WR on the market.
Id rather have Dez and Calvin Ridley or Dez and DJ Moore than Ridley and TWill as a starting duo.
his deal needs to be restructured no question...but who do you replace him with.

ps....the steelers aint swapin us Dez for Brown.

I would argue this.

who?
which f/a WR is better than Dez?
Jarvis Landry, Allen Robinson (assuming he's recovered from his ACL surgery), and even Sammy Watkins.

Dez is now a liability on AND off the field. He single handledly costed us the Seattle game and hasn't had a 100 yard game in over 20 games, I believe.

I take Dez over Robinson and Watkins.
Jarvis Landry...maybe.

on second thought...Ill take Dez over Landry.

That's what I said. Every year you do this and wave your hands and no one in the league ever does it.

Actually Dallas does do it every year. Witten - as one example - has restructured his contract in four of the last five seasons to give the team more cap space.

If WR is the biggest need...Id rather keep Dez,restructure his deal and Draft Calvin Ridley at 19...or Christian Kirk in the 2nd.

Agree to disagree, but in my opinion, there’s absolutely no way Dez can be taken over those guys.

Im not the biggest fan of Dez....but I dont think there is a better option right now.
I dont want to pursue another diva receiver like jarvis landry.
Id rather restructure Dez's deal and draft a WR within the first 3 Rds.
