Lmao yeah ok. Show me a consensus top 30 interior lineman going in round 2 near the 50th pick. Pipe dream
Bama DTs seem to fall every year. Jon Allen was a consensus top 5 pick and fell to 17 last year.

The year before that Ashawn Robinson and his DT teammate who Im currently blanking on were both considered 1st rounders. Both got drafted in the mid-2nd.

All three of them had greater impacts than Payne, by a country mile.

Thats just in the last two years lmao, far from a pipe dream.

Also Payne is far from a consensus top 30 player lmao.

Hurst isnt a NT....but if you put them all in one group,I think he's the best DT in the class.
Stout v the run.
generates Excellent pressure.
Relentless.
IF Dallas takes a DT in Rd 1.....IF.....I think Hurst is their kindof guy.

I agree he is their kind of guy. We already have his NFL comp, M Collins. None of their kind of guys are going to shine until we put someone like Vea or Payne in there to create mismatches.

My problem is when i watched his film, if he doesn't win with his initial quickness, he's roadkill. So, yes, he may make some splash plays where he penetrates but I fear he is going to lose a lot more than he wins at the next level unless he has a lot of talent around him.

Several guys on this site that i respect are high on him so maybe I'm out in left field on this one. Not saying i wouldn't draft him, just saying anything before late 2nd or 3rd makes me feel nauseous.

Jarran Reed...Allen fell because of a degenarative shoulder issue found during the combine!

Payne is NOT a Vince Woolfolk fatty type ...... he’s a Fletcher Cox disruptor type. Payne has 10X the athleticism Vince ever dreamed of having.
Cox is 6'4" and was drafted at 298#s. He had 21 sacks his last 2 seasons in college playing in the sec. Payne is a little ov 6'1" and 315#, he had 5 sacks in 3 seasons. He nowhere on the disruption Cox created. He's basically been a space eater that got some noteriety at the back end of his career!

That's true - and that is exactly what we need, our 1-tech is not supposed to be a sack man. The occasional sack here and there would be helpful, but a space eater who gobbles up guards and tackles and keepers your LBers clean, while stuffing the run IS exactly what this team needs. A talented big man, not just a big body.

Except that isn't Marinelli's defense. He doesn't want a space eater, he does want guys who penetrate and also have lateral quickness. Look at the eagles, they replaced Bennie Logan with Tim Jernigan because Jernigan was a guy who could penetrate on the pass rush.

Jernigan isn’t a sack guy.

Im trying to find someone to placate Marrinelli and his definition of what he wants in a 1-tech. This is why I Have trouble mocking Vita Vea to the Cowboys, but want to put Payne there.
In the end, his definition has not worked - at all, we havent stuffed the run, and the inside guys havent got much of a push. So, Rod - you will get DaRon Payne and you will like it !
Now get out there with the talent we just got you, and make it work !
