I know a fair amount of folks who are both highly intelligent and articulate who come from various demographics and sometimes you have to live outside the stereotype.

That is very true as I can call myself a testament to that. As stated above, I had very good parenting even with all the distractions of the environment around me.

Yeah, that makes all the difference as does education. If you don't develop a realistic and functioning education life is going to be hard for you.

rico played basketball in college but wasn't good enough to take it to the pro level. yet somehow the cowboys believed he might be able to achieve stardom in the nfl. don't know why. cowboys bought into it, rico bought into it, and some fans bought into it. i'm still waiting for just a little dose of fait accompli.

Rico was a star college player but chose the nfl instead of nba, what are you talking about? Or do I have that wrong?

star? I think not. and if he was that good at b-ball, he would have noted they pay far more than nfl pays. it has become trendy for nfl teams to draft marginal power forwards in the hope they can become great te's. just as it was for a few years to draft two sport stars, particularly those who played baseball and football. particularly, pitchers/qb's. it seldom works out. it's true the power forward position does use some skills similar to those used by te's, but the difference is the players defending you in the nfl don't get called for fouls the same way they do in the nba. contact is allowed.

X I have read hundreds of your post and I know you are to damn intelligent to not know that there is a major difference in social, cultural and education between growing up in middle class suburbia and lower class, impoverished neighborhoods. Thus for causing an articulative difference in speech and behavior attitudes that are just different amongst the two.

Thanks for the feedback.

I understand the speech differences and that type of issue for low income backgrounds but it's the braggadocio that I don't understand. It seems like that type of behavior would be more randomly distributed over all income levels.

Rico is not a football player. He's a former college basketball player , rapper, and social media personality. He's got no chance to beat Witten in anything but a foot race. Even in a down year, Witten is a pro bowl alternate. Rico gets hit and he's out for 6 months. lol

Jermey Parnell was a college basketball player and is now a starter on a playoff team and has a 32M contract.

There have been thousands of college football players that never spent a day on an NFL roster and thousands more that spent some time on an NFL team but were never starters. Many of those players were in football from an early age and had thousands of hours of coaching.

I don't know about Rico, but there are a lot less humans that are 6-6 plus with his type of athletic ability than humans who played college football. As we saw with Parnell, superior physical ability can overcome a lack of experience.

Parnell got a year of college football in before he tried the NFL, and his success was far from immediate. It took him 6 years to land that contract in J-ville.............. and I don't recall him ever declaring himself the next great tackle.

He played 6 games as a backup DE in college.

He was the Cowboys to backup (Swing Tackle) for 3 years.

I don't see anything about what you said that gives any indication that Rico can't follow a similar path. Parnell was the top backup by year 3 and this is year 3 for Rico.

My point is that what Rico is doing is rare and it is hard. We don't see a lot of guys who never played college football in the NFL for a reason. Football, especially the TE position, requires a lot more than raw athletic ability. Rico has had 2 years and i'm sure he'll get a 3rd to try to make an impact. As of now, he's just another guy trying to make the team. If you want to build him up beyond what he has actually done, thats on you. I'll beleive it when I see it.

I'm not building up anybody. Your original contention was that he had no chance and they should just move on from him.

I view Rico like any other project. Anything you get from him is a bonus. Reading all his bravado on Twitter is baffling to me. He should be camped out at the star working with Dak.

I expect nothing from him, and I certainly don't see him beating out Witten in 2018. If we use a 1st or second rounder in the upcoming draft on a TE, he's finished in Dallas.

It’s a cultural thing. Must hip hop lyrics in songs are all about what they have and how nobody can touch them. What kind of cars they drive and mansions they leave in, and so on.

Well, was even a rookie salary paid off in 2 entire seasons? I say no. And he's got a 3rd coming up. The odds aren't in his favor.

To be fair, those are generally the garbage "Pop" hip-hop. The vast majority doesn't go on and on about material things. IMO
