This is the first time I can honestly say I'm not sure Dez will be a 2018 Cowboy. But One thing I am 100% sure, he WILL NOT be released. With the thin crop of WRs in the draft and one, maybe two, free agents receiving tags from there team, Dez's trade value is pretty high IMO. No question we can get a 2nd rounder, maybe a first.

Another thought.....can we use his value to move into top 10 of the draft.....

Stephen Jones is the one who handles all of the Cowboys contract situations. So him going head on with this and being the face of news for this topic basically means this team is serious on the Dez situation. Because if you leave it to Jerry he's going to paint a everything is ok picture to the public as he did with Romo. One thing Jerry will not do is paint a player in a negative way with the public.

So "grinding it out and trying to determine what is in the best interest of our business" is where we're at???

The decision has already been made. How they are going to sell it to Dez is the only thing left to figure out.

This is just something that has to be done. Im starting to get the feeling Dez will be playing somewhere else. Wait until Dez responds on his twitter and you will get the answer of what will happen.

Lol. Seems that way. Those are the words they used on Lucky Whitehead last year...over and over and over again in an embarrassing news conference.

I think you have to start thinking what if Dez refuse and I now see that as a real possibility. Why? Cuz his agent is going to convince him there's some money for to be made but he'll have to leave Cowboy nation.

Stephen carefully choosing his words.........not a word of wanting Dez on this team or back for 2018.

Thin crop of WRs? I keep reading that the draft is very deep at WR, and you can get a good one in rounds 1-4.

Dez is a proud man. At some point he has to decide
  1. Do I spin this as a team’s best interest in winning and let them reduce my cap hit, or
  2. Do I risk the embarrassment of being forced to take a big cut in salary anyway because I get no suitors for my current contract?
Plenty of teams will be interested in Dez; I doubt any team will want him at his current salary.

Referring to the team as the business is akin to Bill Parcells referring to T.O. as the player. "Persona non grata" It would appear time has run out and the only way to reset the clock would be with a pay cut. Calling it the business just means nothing personal Dez.

The draft is full of #2 WRs. Like it or not Dez is the closest thing to having a #1 WR next year. No free agent or draft pick will replace even Dez’s low production next year.

Perhaps they are able to draft someone that can be a #1 in 2 years and cut Dez next year but doing so this year would not be a wise decision

That's interesting coz just read a couple Mocks dropping Ridley to mid-20s range. Also, read a tweet that some is whether or not there's a plug and play day-one starter in the group.

Makes it sound like depending on how FA and the draft goes, Dez may be asked to take a paycut or get cut.

Totally disagree. At this point, he's a top 5 overpaid receiver who hasn't seen 1,000 yards in 3 years. Nobody would touch that contract. To say nothing of perceived attitude issues at times.

I don't think he'd have any trade value whatsoever.

His contract can be restructured, you know that........and to say he has zero trade value? OK.......lol

Sounds like pre cut talk to me or a attempt to reduce the contract which i think is unlikely. Seems like Jerry is doing less and less these last few years which is what i think everyone wants. I think Dez is done and i think they think that as well.
