How much will it cost to re-sign Prescott, Elliott?

Way too early to even gauge it....Dak took a step back from his rookie year and Zeke is playing the suspension game. We need to see much more to even start thinking about it.

It will cost a defense, same as the past decade.

Yes, if we keep both. But, RBs can be replaced fairly easy if needed. Look how quickly we changed from Murray to Zeke. Not to mention that there's no guarantee that Dak will be our QB long term. As for Dak, his play over the course of the next season or two will likely determine if he will be our QB to stay, or if we will be needing to go a bit higher for a new QB. Though, we also have to examine our coaches if he continues to struggle and if they don't use his strengths.

Blake Bortles just got $18 million a year, and no matter what you think about Dak, he's not worse than Bortles.

Zeke is going to get top dollar for an RB, whatever that ends up being. Le'Veon Bell, David Johnson, and Todd Gurley are going to reset the RB market here in the next 1-2 years.

So Dak fell apart the second half of the season along with the rest of the offense AND Zeke was absent all together.

Re-signing them is my last concern right now. Im more worried about wether Dak can be our franchise and Zeke can stay out of trouble.

I hope by the end of next year re-signing them is a huge priority.

You run RB’s to the Ground and then you replace them. Sounds harsh but it’s good business. That’s why you don’t take a RB in the first. Qb is a different story.

Exactly. Can Zeke stay out of trouble? Then great, we can worry about resigning him. Though, I think we could replace Zeke without much trouble in future drafts. Nonetheless, I think Zeke's off the trouble issues, and the assistance that Jerry gave Zeke should help in the resigning efforts should we choose to.

As for Dak, do we know what we have completely in him? I think we have a WCO-set of players if Linehan wanted to actually implement a truer version of the WCO. This would help Dak because he'd have to get the ball out more quickly. This would also help the OLine because Dak held onto the ball way too long last season in a lot of times. It would also help Dak find receivers more quickly. But, will we? Will he struggle? We'll find out.

That's a damn shame. Who knew you could suck at your job and still be a millionaire.

We should start churning midround RBs in hopes of generating a credible replacement for Zeke.
Also to just improve the guys who spell him.

Now's not the time yet for that. What we need is to build the team. Though, we do need a running back like Sproles or Kamara who can take essentially extended handoffs on third down (when we apparently don't use Zeke).

As good as Elliot is I would let him walk most likely, as for Prescott way to early to know. I just think it has been proven you can get good production out of rounds 2-4 and even later for running backs.

Hmm, that's a bit of a tricky thing. Like I've said, I think the running back position is easier to replace of the two. However, should Dak's career pan out more like this past season as opposed to his sensational rookie season, then I'd prefer to retain Zeke. In that situation, we'd have a back who is proven and can help the next QB. If Dak's career ends up being sensational, then I'd let Zeke walk after tagging him. Besides, we DO have the advantage in terms of Zeke. We have the ability to pick up the option and then tag him should we wish to do so. So, we could, theoretically, get 6 years out of Zeke before we have to really make that decision. With Dak, we have less time.

Who says Dak or Zeke for that matter, will be re-signed?

Its too early to say

Lol funny how fans will try and discredit probably the greatest first 24 games to start a career by a qb, but define him as a weakness after a 8 game stretch that had him losing his rb and watching his two best ol be hampered by injuries in this same stretch. A 8 game stretch that saw him get sacked an avg of 3 times a game. I'm glad this forum is just a fragment of the cowboy fan base, because a lot just don't know or don't bother to see.

Please reread what I said. I did not say that Dak was a weakness to this team. I said that we don't know what we have in him. Yes, there were issues on this team surrounding him. Yes, the coaches failed him. But, I don't know what we have in him. I will support him as the starter as I did Romo. If you ask members of the old site that are here now and have read my posts, they will tell you that I was rather staunch with Romo, but I supported Dak when he became the starter. I don't think Dak's a weakness yet. I know he's got skill, and I know he can be a good QB. The big question is, what can we do to fix the problems to help him. But, we don't know what we have in Dak for sure.

i didnt mean u specifically i just hit reply usually i delete a post that gets put in the box. forgot to.

I think you can clearly tell what u got in Dak. You have a guy who still needs more development. The team knew what they had. They didnt know he was going to be thrust into starting, he was supposed to be on the bench learning right now. But Romo couldnt take a hit. So he was forced in there. And what u got is a Strong QB who wants to hit the guy whos open. Nomatter who that is. He's a QB who doesnt mind handing it off to a great rb. A qb who wants to take what the defense gives him. We saw that his rookie yr.

What we saw in 2017 was a team who was forcing the ball to its #1 WR at all costs. And i think that came straight from top. And it failed because while Dez still thinks he's 2014 Dez it was 2017 and his body has taken the hits and his legs have taken the injuries.

I agree, and I think the solution to help him is to use an offense like a run balanced West Coast offense which means that the QB is to throw the ball more quickly (but also allows him to run it if he deems it necessary).

A 8 game stretch that saw him get sacked an avg of 3 times a game.

For the final 7 games, and for the season, he was sacked an average of 2 times per game. That's 10th best in the league. One game ruined him for the entire second half of the season? Let's not pretend the guy wasn't well protected, outside of the Atlanta game he had much better protection than just about any QB in the league - the best protection in the league was 1.1 sacks per game. In the 15 games that weren't against the Falcons Dak was sacked 1.5 times per game - which would put him tied for third.
