Jerry finally makes some pragmatic comments

We're not winning a SB until Jerry's dead .I'll wait
Well .. technically we have won 3 Super Bowls in Jerrys tenure .. now if you mean we are not winning another Super Bowl until he dies .. well history supports that theory but we still just might .. even the sun shines on a dogs arse every now and then .. so there’s always a chance

With the contracts for quarterbacks going higher and higher, Jerry Jones knows the Cowboys are in a must-win mode now with Dak Prescott playing on his rookie contract. “He’s going to get his extraordinary contract, but while we can put the team together and take advantage when he is on this contract right now, we’ve got to be real astute to maximize that advantage,” Jones said. “We’re a team that has a high priced offensive line, and it gets a break with Dak right now. It gives us a chance to do some things on defense. This basic dynamic of salary structure won’t be with us but for a year or two. So I guess what I’m trying to say is we need to take advantage of where are contracts are.”

Sounds good except the part about Dak getting an "extraordinary contract."

He didn't say Dak would get that extraordinary salary with Dallas. What he seems to be saying is we have 2 years to make that decision and in the mean time we need to take advantage of a QB playing at a fairly high level who is making less than $700,000 average over the next two years. He's right. Dak is a bargain. I see many of the high cost players gone by that time. That includes Dez, Lee, and Witt. That adds up to cap space for Dak (if we choose) and Zeke. Not bad from where we've come from. BTW after FA, 5 of the top ten paid players on the team (possibly 6 of the top 10 depending on Hitch) will be defenders. Also not bad

Not a huge Jerry fan but he does own the Cowboys. People telling him to "shut his trap" cracks me up. Maybe Jerry should go to their house and tell them to "shut their trap" about say...a new car or bike they just got. Their house, wife and so on. Jerry will never shut up so people need to get over it.
:hammer:

Once we ink Dak to a big deal we won’t be able to retain all of our OL and surrounding talent . We basically have 2 years before Dak has to carry our offense.

"He also points out that the Eagles’ success despite injuries eliminates a big excuse."

Why would he bring that up then? No excuses for JG next season.
Doesn't fit thw narrative people have about Garrett being on the hot seat

It would be very ballsy of Jerry to let Dak go when his contract is up. If you could build a team, and bring in QBs on the cheap, you would have a big advantage in the NFL. With a strong defense in 2016, Dak could have easily taken us to the SB as a rookie. Why not other QBs?

It will be interesting to see if they draft a QB with a real pick this year, giving us a backup who could take over come time Dak's contract is up.

will not happen all though drafting a QB later is prudent

Yeah, I mean what bit us in the end with Romo, a stubborn refusal to draft a QB and develop him, should be a learning experience. I think we'll draft a QB this year. UDFA maybe but does anyone feel supremely confident in Rush. If we rest on our laurels with the most important position on the team, QB, we've learned zip squat!! Who was waiting in the wings when Aikman finally succumbed to injuries? Who was waiting in the wings when Romo succumbed? Now contrast that with NE. Who was waiting in the wings when Brady went down? Who was waiting in the wings when Favre's carrer was at an end. That's the mentality we need. It's not like the signs weren't there with Aikman or Romo? Jeez be a little proactive, go back to the draft in 2019 if Dak doesn't progress. Frankly I think he will but the proof is in the actions not the thought
