And couch was a pretty good Qb on some really bad teams. Revisionist history if you didn't watch him every sunday was "oh he's a bust". He wasn't. The guy could play. He was on some of the worst teams ever compiled, we are talking late 70's buccaneers when he started with them.
Are you saying because couch didn't work out they can never take a QB #1 overall again?
Couch was not good as a pro. Guy barely had a play book in college. He was one of the first air raid system QBs with Hal Mummy as the Coach. He had a very good arm and was a good guy but was completely over his head in a pro system. I loved watching him in Kentucky and hoped he would do well with the Browns which is just a few hours away.
What I am saying is you don't take a QB just to take a QB. You have to really have to believe that QB is going to make a difference for your team. Taking Tim Couch at that time was stupid. It was a team starting pretty much from. Scratch and he did not have much of a chance.
The Browns are getting better now but IMO they need to get a good RB and finish off their Oline if any rookie QB is going to have a chance there.
I will also say if you go back and look at the first round picks they have had since coming back into the league, and plenty of them with two first round picks in same year.... They have a terrible record with first round picks and even worse with pickin QBs.
Team has been snake bitten when it comes to first rounders withe a few exceptions over the years.
I would finish team off in draft, obtain decent vet QB and maybe draft a Mason Rudolph later.
