Are the Browns really going to pass on Darnold?

They can't be *this* stupid, right? I mean at this point they should truly be abolished. Finally; get the #1 pick and a chance to take a QB, he's right there. They've whiffed on Wentz, whiffed on Watson... here's Darnold...

And they're gonna take Saquon Barkley.

Good God they don't deserve to be in this ******* league anymore. I hate them with every fiber within me

Wouldn't be surprised if they did. And honestly I wouldn't blame them as long as they draft one of the QBs at 1 or 4. Darnold has a lot more issues then wentz and watson when they came out. If they preferred Rosen, Allen or mayfield wouldn't be a huge shocker

Last time they took the #1 overall QB... Tim Couch

Don't make a difference if they take the wrong QB at #1 overall and as bad as their luck... Whatever QB they take will probably be a bust.

I’m no expert but I would take the RB at 1 and than pick the best QB on the board. They could even trade down and get Baker Mayfiejd a little lower if they wish. No way u take one of theses 4 QB and think they are head over heals the best QB prospect. Donald is not a sure thing by any way. He doesn’t have that IT. Bryant has that IT. NYG are not taking. qB. That would be a wasted on a player who would be a clip board holder thisnext year. INDy is in the same boat. If Cleveland goes Bryant 1 and say BAker at 4. That’s in A+ in my novice opinion.

I don’t know why one would be so sure Darnold is the BEST.

When did Darnold become a can’t miss prospect? Why is a Cowboys fan mad at the Browns? Their best bet is to take Barkley. Whatever QB they pick at 4 will have a lot better chance with Barkley in the backfield. Who says they wiffed on Watson? Texans drafted him and gave the Browns a top 5 pick and have a QB with a bum knee to show for it. Watson could very well be RG3 2.0. Now I will agree they screwed the pooch on Wentz.

I heard the same "issues" about Watson and Wentz though.. now that they're superstars they didn't have issues. Darnold is that guy this year, it's very clear. He is probably better suited for the NFL than even Watson was; as much as I thought Cleveland should have taken Watson this is such a no brainer. How are people paid to do this for a living, day in and day out this incompetent?

:hammer:Been saying this for awhile. At first overall, take the best non-QB player and you still have your pick of at least three, maybe four of top QBs at 4. They used last year's first pick on DE. If it was me, I'm taking Barkley first and either Mayfield or Rosen 4th.

Nah, shelf life of a RB is 4-5 years in reality. The browns will win 4-5 games a year with or without Barkley. RB isn't what it was in the 70's or 80's or 90's. It's just not that type of position anymore. Can't compare the situation to Elliot here, apples to oranges. Zeke will have his best years behind him in 4-5 years and QB's play 10-15 if you get the right one.

I like football, and I am completely floored that the Browns would be this stupid again. I thought finally; these guys will get a QB as they should have several times already, and finally they'll be stabilized on both sides of the ball, new regime, Fitzpatrick on D; and you know, that's good for football. I am really tired of watching the Ravens and Steelers on sunday night football because the Browns are inept. But no; it's too easy. They want to re-invent the wheel. I work with several Cleveland fans and they think this is beyond ******** - the notion of taking anyone but Darnold at one especially a RB who had several subpar games being overlooked. I am glad I'm not crazy.

Rosen openly said he doesn't want to go there. He's a finesse passer, fragile, and doesn't have the arm strength for that climate really.

Mayfield is Manziel 2.0. There is footage of him running from; and being caught by the cops (lol). Again; why pass on Darnold? He's the Winston/Wentz/Watson of this class and has been if you watched any volume of college FB the past few years. This is not hard. I guess that's why I made the thread.

And couch was a pretty good Qb on some really bad teams. Revisionist history if you didn't watch him every sunday was "oh he's a bust". He wasn't. The guy could play. He was on some of the worst teams ever compiled, we are talking late 70's buccaneers when he started with them.

Are you saying because couch didn't work out they can never take a QB #1 overall again?

And Darnold is a turnover machine 20 ints in the last 20 games, 13 ints and 9 fumbles lost in 2017. Darnold also has horrible throwing mechanics.

The Browns are in a unique position to finally build a winning core. They have a pretty decent Oline in place and some WRs to work with already. Barkley is an all-world back that can transform their offense. Sitting with 1 & 4 in their pocket with what’s considered 4 top QBs is fantastic. The Giants might snag one at 2 and unless the Colts know something about Luck’s shoulder that they aren’t telling anyone, they don’t seem to be looking for a new franchise QB. That leaves the Browns walking away with the top RB and their pick of the litter when it comes to the 3 remaining QBs. What about that seems like a bad idea?

Darnold wasn’t even the best QB in the PAC12 imo.

Why can’t Wentz be rg3? Didn’t they all tear acls? Hmmmm

Couch was not good as a pro. Guy barely had a play book in college. He was one of the first air raid system QBs with Hal Mummy as the Coach. He had a very good arm and was a good guy but was completely over his head in a pro system. I loved watching him in Kentucky and hoped he would do well with the Browns which is just a few hours away.

What I am saying is you don't take a QB just to take a QB. You have to really have to believe that QB is going to make a difference for your team. Taking Tim Couch at that time was stupid. It was a team starting pretty much from. Scratch and he did not have much of a chance.

The Browns are getting better now but IMO they need to get a good RB and finish off their Oline if any rookie QB is going to have a chance there.

I will also say if you go back and look at the first round picks they have had since coming back into the league, and plenty of them with two first round picks in same year.... They have a terrible record with first round picks and even worse with pickin QBs.

Team has been snake bitten when it comes to first rounders withe a few exceptions over the years.

I would finish team off in draft, obtain decent vet QB and maybe draft a Mason Rudolph later.

The flaw in your thinking is assuming Darnold is the sure fire first pick and like an Andrew Luck.

If you watch Darnold play, he's a ticking time bomb. He makes really dumb decisions and really poor throws at times. Clearly he has elite talents, but that's useless if you just are a bad decision maker.
