Harold Landry

Game footage.

Interesting, because when racked up 69 pressures in 2016 he had the highest pass rush productivity in all of college football for DEs when he was healthy.

If that's soft, give me a whole bunch of soft pass rushers.

I think he is tremendous...but seems a better fit for a 3-4 to me.
Im not ready to give up on Taco.
Drafting Landry is about preparing for possibly losing DeMarcus Lawrence or David Irving.
I just see him more of a fit for a 3-4.

His bend/shoulder dip is a thing of beauty when you watch his tape.

Who is giving up on Taco? But we could absolutely use another edge player.

Philly has four guys at DE who can get after the QB now...... Graham, Long, Bennett and Barnett.

Yup, and the Seahawks had the nastiest pass rush when they were competing for Super Bowls.

Off the top of my head, some really good college pass rushers that were soft in the NFL:
Vernon Gholston
Marcus Smith
Aaron Maybin
Ebenezer Ekuban
Michael Sam

When will we learn that pass rush really comes from the middle

I'll take Vea or Payne over Landry
Payne will be there at 19

Kind of surprised by the lack of talk about him. Some of you might think we are full up on current and future war daddies. (I dont) Taco is iffy at best depending on your point of view, huge year coming up for him. Lawrence is taking up 10% of the cap and has a back made of popsickle sticks. In a perfect world I would prefer a pocket collapsing DT but I think Harold is likely there at 19. If its me depending on the available options, I think he could be the guy. Opinions?
I agree man. Everyone even in the draft analyst community talks about his lack of measurables but every one was on board with drafting Tak McKinley last year. The only thing that Tak has on him is arm length when it came to measurables. Would not be mad if he was drafted at 19. Better change of direction skills then Tak and comparable 40 times.

I agree.

I think it would make a lot of sense to draft Landry. 1) you never need an excuse to draft a pressure player 2) he provides insurance should anything happen to D-Law and 3) he's an insurance policy of D-Law walks after this year.

Here's why there is a zero percent chance the Cowboys draft Harold Landry.

They would have to take him with their 1st round pick and both Jerry and Stephen have stated many times their philosophy with 1st round picks is an immediate starting player. I'm not interested in debating the logic of that. That is their philosophy and they make the picks. They just franchise tagged one DE and used their 1st round pick on another last year. They're also about to 2nd round tender at the minimum another player who gets snaps at DE. Harold Landry isn't happening here.

None of Taco Charlton (0 games started), Byron Jones (11 games started), Dez Bryant (2 games started), Felix Jones (0 games started) or Anthony Spencer (6 games started) were immediate starters.

I mean, Spencer started the first 6 games, but that had more to do with Ellis coming off injury, but really outside of the o-line and Elliott/Claiborne who were picked top 6, there aren't any immediate starters.

That's how it turned out. But every single one of those guys was projected that way by the front office with Felix being drafted to be part of a 1-2 committee.

This isn't my theory. I've literally heard them say this multiple times. Landry would be behind too many players for them to draft him in the first round. Watch and see. It isn't happening.

Wasn't he pretty universally a 1st round pick if he declared last year?

Yes a guy that could have gone to us at our pick and some mocked him to us. He decided to go back to improve his stock from mid- late first to the top hl of the draft. He got hurt and some suspect he was dogging it to protect himself before going into the draft. Now he blows up the combine an shows the speed and bend that made him seem like a can't miss edge guy in 2016. I would not be opposed to him because BJ Hill and Tim Settle are both available to improve the interior of the defensive line in the second.

so it's....
Isaiah Wynn,G-Georgia
Will Hernandez,G-Utep
Rashaan Evans,LB-Alabama

if they do draft a DE...it would be later.

so long Harold Landry.....it woulda been fun to have a Landry around the place again....dang.

Maybin and Sam weren't atheltic enough to be successful in the NFL and Gholson was very raw as noted in his scouting report.

Don't know much about the other guys, but the lack of success has nothing to do with being soft and more so to their flaws thatbwere pretty well noted in the scouting reports.

Not a relevant comparison at all IMO.

It seems that you didn't watch any of these players.

Anybody that continually references scouting reports probably hasn't been studying the draft for long. Those are media reports not NFL scouting reports. Go look at draft reports on WR Antonio Brown. He just posted one on social media and it was comical.

If you had watched those players you would know they were soft.

I'm not sure how a draft fan wouldn't have watched those players. Did you just starting watching football?

How does a Cowboys fan not know Ekuban?

Maybin
4.64 forty
1.54 ten
40 vert

They all had great production as pass rushers in college and all but Sam had execellent athleticism.
