Rams release Lance Freaking Dunbar

imagine a versatile weapon like that in the hands of a creative genius like Linehan.

Here comes the daily Jerry hate. Makes me wonder why some are even Cowboys fan.. smh. You do realize he is the owner.. that’s not going to change. It’s like wishing you could fly or a nagging woman hoping men will put the seat down after peeing. Lame.

He never caught more than 18 Romo passes in a year.

He had two games with Romo that he had over 50 yards, two games where he had over 4 catches.

His best ever game receiving was with Brandon Weeden at QB...and no Dez.

Most overrated Cowboy I have ever seen for how long he stuck here. He’s a waste of space...I would rather bring Lucky Whitehead back.

I don't think he was ever rated all that high here. He was never more than a change of pace 3rd down back, and he never really even had fans who went to bat for him as anything more than that.

What he did get was a ration of hate from guys who thought he was an easy target or who didn't like him getting hurt from time to time. IIRC, he was on pace for about 80-90 receptions in 2015 after Demarco left and Romo went down playing under Brandon Weeden. For a 5'8" UDFA who could also return kicks for you, I never understood where the intense debate came from over the guy. So much debate over a little try-hard dude who was athletic enough to run between the tackles in a pinch and could split out and run every route we asked the receivers to run.

Dunbar is a dynamic player WHEN healthy, but that’s been his problem. He has never demonstrated that he could stay on the field in Dallas.. and he proved it again while with the Rams. The other problem is.. you can find guys like Dunbar in every draft class. I like the idea of having a ‘Dunbar’ type player... but there is no need to revisit an aging player that will cost more than the NFL min. If you desire a player of his caliber.. draft him in the late rounds or grab him after the draft like Dunbar.

Your point is well taken, but the bottom line is, as Cowboys fans we care; so that's why we complain. This team hasn't sniffed the Super Bowl since I was in high school and I'm turning 40 this summer. It's beyond ridiculous.

Adding corners and releasing Dunbar.

Rough offseason for the Rams.

What was Dunbar's jersey #, 20,24 or 26? He was kinda' speedy, although in '15',he red-lined his motor& over torqued one of his casing-liners in that meaningful attempt of bringing that k.o. 4 yards deep out of the end zone, by golly,he was trying thougho_O

Nonsense.

There were quotes from the staff that basically talked about his abilities to create a mismatch and how he was a "weapon".

He was the poster child for how this organization not only overrated the talent but also was clueless about their supposed talent.

Yep. Take Zeke Elliott off the field for that bum. People applauded it.

The revisionist history is that he really wasn't all that important now he is gone and basically one step from being out of the league.

If this site had a real search function, I could come up with some doozies.

I understand and I’m with you my friend. I’m over 40 myself.. I know for a fact our SB drought isn’t because Jerry hasn’t tried.. he’s tried over spending, and that was miserable due to the cap. He’s tried stepping back and letting a Coach like Parcells take full control.. that got us nowhere. Now he’s incorporating a collection of some of the “top” minds in football and letting Stephen take more control.. whether folks believe it or not.. it’s working. We have talent on this team, but unforeseen injuries/retirement/suspension to the likes of Romo, Tyron, Scandrick, Lawrence, Lee,, etc.. have derailed this team lately. I agree, the FO needs to get ahold of some “Bad” contracts.. but I also think they are working on that, yet the FO will not get credit for any of this. No one was saying we shouldn’t resign Dez when his contract was signed and Tyrons contract was considered “a steal” when he signed. We let the likes of Murray, Ware, Claiborne, Parnell, Bruce Carter, etc all walk when they wanted to get paid more than they were worth. One of the downsides of being a Cowboy is players get overhyped. If these players were playing on, let’s say, the Bills.. they would have never garnered the media attention to get over payed. Dez was a top five WR when Romo was throwing to him, now with Dak’s inaccuracies, folks think he’s washed up. Sorry for the rant. My point is.. the FO has started to build the team the right way tha last 2-3 years and that’s via the draft. And although Jerry is leaning more on the evaluators (Scouts/Will McClay), he still the exscape goat. I honestly believe Jerry would spend his fortune to get another SB win in Dallas. He’s come along way since the ‘Uncapped’ era of football and he deserve credit. There is only one SB Winning team each year, so 31 other teams could just hate thier “favorite” team.. or maybe, they could actually be truely loyal fans and support the team. I guess I’ve watched fans of the Bills, Browns, and (until last year) Eagles support thier team no matter what. It’s embarrassing as a Cowboy fan to listen to the garbage spoken ab the owner of the team they ‘so-call’ love.

I COPY!
Well ya know, friend? I was a fierce and loyal JERRY fan for the longest time, but ever since I finally took the time to watch "his" football life on the you tube channel & then followed that one up by watching JOHN MADDEN's
'Football life',, about 4 months ago ,man ,I've been struck stone cold hollow & empty inside,in my JERRY Fandom, to be honest, I really wish I'd of never watched it, it turned me off in a creeped out sorta' way in certain realizations and to the reasons of why postive traction isn't a prerequisite to him anymore, cuz' the EMPIRE of LA-LA LAND is still humming along exceedingly well in his view.

Because from you’re experience the staff doesn’t say that stuff about bottom roster players?!?! Rod Smith anybody? Lucky Whitehead? Ryan Switzer?

Come on. He was a COP back who could run the route tree and return kicks in a pinch and had some big plays in preseason. That’s how he was paid, and how he was used. It was run of the mill for a player like that in the NFL. Every team has them, and they all treat them the same way until they either let them go or they blow up and become Danny Amendola.

They didn’t applaud it, you just complained about it. They *might* have pointed out that Elliott still managed more carries than any other player on any team that season, but hey, who says the criticisms ought to make sense?

Every NFL team does not re-sign that same run of the mill player.

He was signed to a $1.75 million contract in 2015 after missing 12 games. Got another contract in 2016.

Sorry. They invested in this flop.

He is a walking talking example of how this franchise has misevaluated its own talent and wasted resources.

I don't care that it was "cheap". Three or four of that kind equal one decent player.

You’re actually making my earlier case for me. You don’t care about what he actually cost, or about his versatility as an inexpensive role player who wasn’t really used all that often.

You’re upset that he got injured and that he was talked up by the coaches like many utility players on just about every team.

I never cared that he got injured. That was the thing you people brought up to excuse his lack of performance.

I was upset he was an untalented player that this clueless group of talent evaluators thought was better than he was, actually carved out a role for that same player and signed several times.

To repeat, he is a living breathing example of how this organization has failed miserably in talent evaluation.

And in cases like you, how fans buy into the sell job.

What an offseason this is shaping up to be. Here comes the farewell tour of Mo Claiborne, Murray, Dunbar, Pacman and Terrance Newman. LOL

You can repeat it all you like. He was still ever only a change of pace RB who gave you a little something on ST that the team liked because he could be used in the passing game in routes if you wanted to put the defense in a bind. He wasn’t a living breathing example of anything but your inability to keep a coach’s commentary in a normal context.

I referenced the injury thing because you said this in the post I’d quoted, btw:

“He was signed to a $1.75 million contract in 2015 *after missing12 games.* Got another contract in 2016.”
