Tiger is back

So many of his critics had counted him out. He doesn’t even need to win today to claim he’s back. Just being back in contention speaks volumes .

Never count out the heart of a champion .

I’m so happy for Tiger and his place in history. And of course it supports my sense if he could ever become healthy again he could still be a force on tour.

Obviously with the crowds who are following and the ratings he is still great for Golf .

Tiger is recovering from 4 back surgeries including a Fusion which no golfer has ever played at this level after undergoing . And this doesn’t include 3 or 4 surgeries on his leg.

Here’s a chronological listing of Tigers injuries and setbacks . It’s unbelievable he can even still compete at such a high level. The bigger question is how long will his back hold up.

I’m a fan of the game of golf. I enjoy watching the greatest play . I cheer on both Phil and Tiger but I’ve noticed over the years there is some animosity with fans between these rivals.

Both of these HOF have been great for the game .

You are reading too much into it but that's fine. Tiger was a great player. He was no saint though. That's just the truth of it. Telling the truth doesn't equate to animosity or hate. It simply means that it's the truth.

I think that both players have had injuries, late in their careers. The extent of each players injuries are not for me to say. Either way, and once again, the truth is that Tiger never left the PGA and neither did Phil. BTW, I don't think Phil is back and I don't think Tiger is either. I think it remains to be seen.

I played my first round of golf at age 9 with my father. By age 11 was playing in junior tournaments. We didn’t have golf teams when I was growing up so participating in our country club and municipal city events was it.

My uncle was a scratch golfer and I begin following him play at Pro Ams on the PGA tour in Dallas old Preston CC and Colonial following and meeting some of the greats including Arnie, Jack and Trevino.

Golf is the greatest individual sport IMO. Where else do you take penalties on yourself displaying such a level of integrity and sportsmanship. It’s been my greatest joy in life beyond my personal experiences with the Cowboys for over 4 decades.

I haven’t played competitively in 30 years. But I’m considering playing in the Senior Olympics. What a great sport that you can continue playing as long as you can stand. And enjoy with associates, friends and family .

Of course they’re back if they are contending . Winning alone doesn’t define being back.

I am a terrible golfer. To much baseball in my swing and back and knee injuries didn't really help. As a youngster, I could never afford the game. I was introduced to the game from a friend. He was an outstanding golfer in HS and actually got a scholarship to play at the University of Hawaii. A few years later, he was in an accident and lost a leg. Almost lost both of them but was able to keep one. I was in Pensacola at the time, his mother called me and asked me if I could get back home and spend some time with him. He was not doing well and she hoped that if we hung out, he might start getting out more. I came home, and spent a few months here. I had never really played, but they bought me a set of clubs and a pass to play any course, here in NM. Long story short, I played a lot of golf that summer. I was never very good and that's OK. Golf was never in my future plans but, my Buddy, he started playing again and still plays to this day. He's very, very good and wanted to play on the tour, at one point. He could not because of a rule that basically said you had to be able to walk the entire course and he couldn't do it. Still in all, he continued and I think he is better for it.

Golf is a good game but it's not my thing. I'd much rather play Baseball or Football or BBall, if I were still able.

I feel like it is you who is overly sensitive here. Tiger was a great player. Phil was a great player. That's the end of it for me. Neither were the GOT IMO. Both were great. A single tourney or a couple of good rounds do not equate to "Back" IMO. I watched Palmer and Watson and Nicklaus all go through this, late in their careers. I enjoyed watching them play a round of golf that was worthy of their great careers but eventually, they all feel off. That's just how it is. That's the truth of it and if you see that as bashing, OK. To me, it's life.

Great story . Good news is your friend would be allowed to play on the Champion/ Senior tour as they have exemptions for health and disabilities.

As far as yourself , don’t fret . Golf Digest claims the average golfer doesn’t break 100. My brother and father both struggled to shoot in the 90’s but we all still enjoyed playing together as a family. My mother played as well until her Cancer in one leg after surgery limited her ability.

My best friend who I’ve been playing with for almost 40 years has a 22 handicap compared to my single digit but we still play together regularly. It’s a great game and one these days with all the fine Municipal courses is more available for all to play regardless of your means.
