Earl is a star with the seahawks dl, lb's, and secondary. He might not be on the cowboys. We know Irving will do well here.

No. he was a stud in college, he's a stud in the NFL. He's been there 8 years, and was the only 1st rounder of their premiere defensive players. They have done a great job at putting that team together but make no mistake he was the centerpiece. It's why he's still there and other folks have been jettisoned. Bobby Wagner is the other and he came along well after.

Nevermind I just opened them in a new tab. Not sure what linking his deal has to do with anything? And evan silva's opinion doesn't change the fact that starters haven't been announced.

Aside from that, lets say dion lewis does get the nod... Henry is still a hell of a running back which was point.

They are giving him starter money. $5 million avg plus incentives. If Henry was the guy they wouldn't be paying another RB that kind of change. Just like the Cowboys aren't going to pay anyone that with Zeke.

Do you think teams want to give this front office more draft picks to do such a great job with?

Not happening. There needs to be some competitive balance throughout the league.

None of that means it's a guarantee that he would be the same here. And his college career means even less. We have different rosters.

Also, Bruce Irvin was a 1st rounder. Their whole defense was full of good players.

Henry isn’t Zeke, and the Titans aren’t the Cowboys. They traded for Murray and drafted Henry the same year. That shows their philosophy. 5 mil a yr isn’t outrageous. Do you think the falcons wouldn’t give that to Tevin Coleman when he’s due despite having Freeman as their lead back? They like having two backs. Again it’s not an indictment on Henry any more than it’s consistent with what they like to do

I didn’t say it guarantees he would be good here. I said the rest of their defense didn’t make him as he’s the longest tenured and most pedigreed part of it. Their defense is full of good players, sure and he has either been the centerpiece , the catalyst or a huge piece the entire time. Not to mention we’ve got some pretty solid pieces now as well. I think he’d do just fine here.

You are posting complete gibberish.
DLaw was a 2nd round pick.
DI was not even drafted.
There are better players than DI every year in round 2.

Where you MAY have a point is in getting player better NEXT YEAR on a 1 season scale than DI.

But largely fans are stupid. They are stupid because the media has made them this way.
Dallas has all the control over DI they could ever ask for. He is their property until someone blows DI away with a contract offer and they choose not to match.

As for where this draft picks have no or middling value stuff comes from it is insane.
Jimmy Johnson invented stockpiling draft picks and we won 3 Super Bowls because of it.
When you hear this stupidity that draft picks are overvalued tell those people to shut up.
Draft picks are over valued compared to a proven player. Only approximately half of 2nd rounders ever end up starting and only around a third of 3rd rounders ever end up starting. David Irving has proven he can be an elite player in this league. You are not going to get a DE/DT of Irving’s ability in this draft. Of course there are risk with Irving( immaturity, concussions etc.), but there are bigger risk with letting him go to another team and trying to replace him with a draft pick. The risk/reward, to me, is well worth it. We should have given Irving a 1st round tender. This would have scared off more teams and at least we would get a 1st round pick for him( though I would rather have Irving than a 1st). Again, draft picks are way over valued compared to proven NFL talent.

I would love the 36th pick for Irving. Can they choose which 2nd rounder to give up? I could see them giving up the 49th pick but not the 36th pick.
They have to give up their pick, not a pick that was traded to them.

I am pretty sure the Colts would offer more than the 2.9 mil tender. This was just a bad move by the F.O. should have been a 1st rd tender.

What people seem to forget about is that the other 3`1 teams know about all of the off the field issues Irving has had and his injuries so don't assume that any team is going to offer more. He plays good when he plays but he's missed enough games for teams to consider. If it does happen the Cowboys still have the option of matching the offer.

This scenario is a good for the Cowboys. If Irving accepts a reasonable offer form the Colts, the Cowboys can still keep him by matching. If the Cowboys feel the offer is too steep, they can take that 36th pick and use it in a number of ways draft day. Keep an eye on a trade as well.

Can't keep all the good players and it's nice to see some real compensation for one that is lost.

I think Irving is more valuable to us than earl thomas
If we were 1 or 2 players away from being real SB contenders..

I would say sign Thomas.

But we are not in that position.

We just rehired more than half the coaching staff.

Richard as the assistant DC has to have some time with us before we know what he brings.

We lack a starter on the OL at LG..

we are fighting under production from the receivers vs. 2016.

We need a new TE and LBer.

There are others like Crawford who have not met expectations.

Not to mentions Martin's contract coming..

So Thomas..no.

If any team, not just the Colts wanted to offer Irving a contract we have first right of refusal and can match any offer to keep him.

This is also considered a very DT rich draft around our top 2 picks by the way.

If the Cowboys had quality back ups for Lee and Smith, they probably would have been in the playoffs last season.
