Moving on from Beasley

It’s not unusual for this team to stay with what they are comfortable with
That doesn’t mean Switzer can’t play, just they were more comfy with Beasley
Not saying Switzer is better though he does offer more on ST, but he showed in his limited playing time he can do the same things Beasley does
And for once we have a guy in place and a guy with some trade value, and it also saves some miney

I'd say it's the other way around. If it weren't unusual for the team to stay with players they like, Romo would still be starting (and we'd be a better team). Instead, they cut Romo (and we got worse) in favor of a half capable bus driver that needs players like Bease to be able to look good.

I can get mad at people for being so droolingly stupid that they want to get rid of two of the only 3 players who have managed to make Dak look like a competent bus driver.

Huh? Did you see Beasley last year? To quote a poster on here.......Brice Butler had more yards than Cole Beasley. How good do you have to be to catch 2 or 3 yard passes from Dak? Beasley didn't even do that. Quit being a homer and open your eyes. You are riding too hard for guys that play doesn't warrant it.

Comp picks are a year away
You think a 4th next year is as valuable as Beasley and say a 4th to get a second this year, even a 4th and 5th
The second rnd in this draft can get you a starting quality player

Beasley plus a 4th only gets you a 2nd if Beasley is getting an early 3rd worth of value. Which I don't see happening, and said so.

I'd probably take an early 3rd for Beasley, and the team probably would too, unless they have plans for an extension, which is an idea I approve.

Beasley's history with the team suggest he is risk averse and likes things settled. We might get a good contract off him if we offered it coming off a down year, and he is facing a contract year.

nobody did well last year. However, you have to look at % of receptions thrown their way for equivalent attempts:

1. Witt 72%
2. Terrance Williams 67%
3. Cole Beasley 57%

he's still one of the best receivers we have, even with a half capable bus driver at QB.

When the Cowboys drafted Switzer as high as they did that told me the writing was on the wall for Beasley. Not yet. When it's time to re-sign Beasley....unless it's a bargain? I don't see it.
That was certainly the hope. We haven't seen much out of Switzer yet.

The smart move now would be trying to extend Beasley off his down year for cheap. I consider his current contract good value already. Maybe coming off last year he won't be confident about doing better in free agency next year.

But low.

Hopefully someone in the middle of the field that can make them pay for bracketing him since Witten is no longer that guy.
Preaching to the choir.

I really hope all of this intensive work they have supposedly been paying to the passing game structure pays off.

I don't think I am exaggerating that we have been running the same route concepts since Garrett was initially inserted into the OC role during the Phillips regime.

We are so so stale.

remember all the buzz around camp about Beasley and Switzer being on the field,at the same time...and how will defenses handle it.

WHAT.
THE HELL.
HAPPENED.

What happened is that it was our imagination.

We all thought they would be all New England and have little white guys running crossing patterns and so on.

When the reality was, they wanted a punt returner. Someone to do Lucky Whitehead's job.

But not to that degree, because they did not want him doing what Whitehead and Harris did before him, he was not quite good enough blocking.

So, you got what you got.

which was nuttin'.

I saw a big change in 2014 when Linehan came in moving from the go and post to the in and crossing routes as the staples of offense. I saw an evolution of that in 2016 when Dak came in with moving the pocket around, waggles and the RPO stuff with crossing routes in front of it. Given Dak's limitations i think we will move farther from the go and post.

Garrett used to use a gap scheme with the draw ad nauseum. Then Callahan went to the Shanahan style stretch which had a tone of lateral movement and the counter. When he left we went to more off tackle and compact stretches with more middle isoes that we have seen the last two years. I am interested to see what changes Alexander brings.

You are correct about the gap thing. The draw was basically our run game there for a while.

Alexander is a strange case. In theory, he should bring more man concepts. That is his deal.

I said it back when people around here would have been fine with Colombo being elevated to OL coach. That position is vital to a team's success.

Show me a loser, I can display their OL coach. I feel the same way about special teams.

I just hope this is not just one big cluster.

Those were two big hires that needed to be done right.

I really like Beasley and I have advocated trading him. A couple of reasons starting with the fact for once have a replacement for a player before they leave. He won’t be back next year because he is not getting a 3rd contract. And he has some trade value
It’s not about the player, like the player. It’s about getting something for a guy you are gonna lose
I think the second rnd in this draft could get us two very good players if we could add a second without losing our third. I think if you pkg Beasley with a later pick or two you might be able to add another second
Again, I like Beasley but why hang on to him another year when you have a replacement in place who will be replacing him next year anyway
Perfect. Could not have said it better. Makes too much sense. That is why it will not happen.

Move on from bease? Read some comments on lack of production? How about we blame the coaches for running a vanilla offense that defenses can predict where we will go with the ball before we go there. That's why bease didn't have a repeat. Also bease was running wide open so much of last year. Go back and rewatch some of the games. Dak had his eyes down watching the rush.

Don't be stupid and say Switzer can replace Beasley.
What has Switzer done so far to make you think that?

Beasley is a very good slot receiver. It;s not his fault he is drawing double teams now and it's not his fault the coaching staff can't be creative enough to make adjustments to his routs and lining him up all over the offensive formations.

Maybe one more season, showed way more his 1st rookie season but it’s about the money...

He and Witten are a big reason why people think Dak's a bus driver. Throwing those 2 and 3 yard passes to those guys.

Yeah but why would Beasley re-sign? I wouldnt' sign if I were him coming off a bad year.

If they felt comfortable with Switzer, what is the issue?

Teams adjusted to him last year and basically made Beasley an afterthought.

What is going to change this year?
made easier to do because our #1 wr was so ineffective. that's the one we should be culling from the herd.

Beasley and switzer both in the slot with zeke in the backfield spells mismatch for someone on the defensive side of the ball. tweak the predictable scheme and it will open things up.
