Moving on from Beasley

I've seen this idea pop up in quite a few threads lately. I'm not sure what spawned this. Admittedly with being in vacation last week and some other personal business, I haven't been as plugged in as usual, but where did this come from?

Did a coach or FO person allude to something I missed? Is it people just wanting change for the sake of change? Do you believe the difference in play between Switzer and Beasley is negligible and therefore are ready to pass the torch?

Can someone shed a lite light and share their opinions on this? I sincerely don't get it. I like Beas. I like his attitude, his work ethic and his skill set. He's one of the few real "gamers" we have on offense.

So, clue me in, please.

People are stupid. It really comes down to that. Bease and Witt are the two hardest workers we have on the offense, and for some reason, that offends people, so they want to "move on" from the most productive guys we have. "Witt's old," well, Witt's capable. "Bease isn't a #1 receiver." He doesn't have to be. He was still Dak's best rookie year target, followed by Witt. It's the #1 and #2 receivers we need new players at.

He's short, slow and replaceable. Any questions?

Actually its about digging into the cushions for change. Due to the issues of last year Beasley is not fast and can't get open when bracketed by a LB and DB. A lot of that can be fixed if the team had a more vertical passing attack beyond 10 yards.

If they felt comfortable with Switzer, what is the issue?

Teams adjusted to him last year and basically made Beasley an afterthought.

What is going to change this year?

Id move on from him as early as this year. Let Switzer take his spot. I want a slot receiver that can go deep...

He’d save $3.25 million against the cap and has a clone (better athlete, really) in Switzer already on the roster. He had 1 good year in 2016 and has been a JAG his other 5. Which seems to be the outlier?

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm open to the idea. Anything that makes the team better, as I've said all offseason, just didn't see why this suddenly became such a strong train of thought.

I'm a big fan of Switzer, but its interesting to see how some of the same people who absolutely trashed him last season, now want him to be thrust into a very important role for this team. I'm not sure, unless the offense make some changes, he will be any more successful.

Yeah. No.

I really like Beasley and I have advocated trading him. A couple of reasons starting with the fact for once have a replacement for a player before they leave. He won’t be back next year because he is not getting a 3rd contract. And he has some trade value
It’s not about the player, like the player. It’s about getting something for a guy you are gonna lose
I think the second rnd in this draft could get us two very good players if we could add a second without losing our third. I think if you pkg Beasley with a later pick or two you might be able to add another second
Again, I like Beasley but why hang on to him another year when you have a replacement in place who will be replacing him next year anyway

I think it's crazy pants. Beasley takes double teams, and beats single coverage when he gets it. He's the last WR we should be looking to cut. He's actually positive value compared to his contract. I wouldn't say the same about Dez or Williams. We should be trying to figure out a way to use him as a #2 to get him on the field more often. (But that would require some creativity, so we know it aint gonna happen with our coaching crew.)

As for Switzer, he has done *nothing* on offense, and has been a wash as a punt returner. Some good, some bad. Seemed to be trending up at least, but I think a disappointment on offense and special teams. He's young and cheap, and maybe a cheaper replacement for Bease, and more of a hybrid Dunbar/Bease.

As for trading Bease, there is no point. We'll get a 4th or 5th as a comp pick if we let him go after this season. Trading our guys will rarely make much sense for us, as we tend to stay in positive comp pick territory, by design.

thought it was beasley drawing double coverage instead of dez?

Beasley has nothing to do with witten and most fans who bash Beasley are just pushing buttons
Beasley is a fine player who is extremely good in the slot. You save some money but that aside Beasley is gone after this year and for one of the few times ever we have a replacement
To me since he’s not getting a 3rd contract why not get something for him now?
I like Beasley but I also think Switzer can do the same things and you get something for Beasley besides a comp pick a year later

Hardest workers based on what?

The reason I put both Witt and Bease into this post together is it's the same morons who don't know anything about football who are agitating replacing both of them. The only guys who looked even remotely consistent last season with Dak, and of course during his rookie year, Bease was his best friend
