We need a draft lottery. I’m tired of losers being rewarded

Every time I look at teams like the Jaguars finally making the playoffs, I think about them getting top 4 picks for 6 plus years. If you have a top 4 pick every year, you should make the playoffs.
I understand they want the league to be competitive, but should good organizations be rewarded too?
Shouldn't bad GMs and owners be punished? Why should a bad team guarantee a certain pick for themselves. I think the teams with the 10 worst records should have a equal draft lottery and the last 22 should have their own.

To be fair, I kinda agree with you to a point. I look at a team like the Browns, and I can't help but wonder just how much more incompetent they can possibly be. I know it'll never have, but, in European football, they have a pyramid of leagues, and, if you're among the bottom 3 in your league (though, for us, I'd like for it to be the worst team gets relegated and the best team gets promoted), then you get relegated. The best three teams in the lower league get promoted. That way, there's no advantage to tanking. In fact, I'd structure the draft so that the newly promoted team gets the first pick. The relegated league gets to draft after the NFL. Again, probably never going to happen, but it'd remove tanking.

What I want is for the bad teams to not get picks based on record. Give them a lottery. Look how many top 10 picks the rams, browns and jags needed to finally win( not the browns).
It’s disgusting. I wouldn’t be mad if the bottom 25 teams had a lottery.

I'd be fine with a lottery system too. I also like the relegation system in Europe. It makes teams scared to tank, as it should.

It’ll never happen. I wish fans realized the power they had. We can say what we want the nfl to change and not watch until they do it. I’d love for us to boycott until they fit goodell and bring back big hits.

I agree. We have a lot more say than we think. If we band together, we can force Goodell's hand. Frankly, the Browns fans should start really boycotting their team if they continue to prove themselves inept. How can a team have as many picks and high picks as they do, and STILL suck? Like, they even get decent players in trades and STILL suck.

Its called competitive balance and franchise protection. Its really designed to maintain and possibly improve revenues for the teams and the league. If the fans of bad teams believe their teams don't have a chance to get better and compete, they'll lose interest and be less inclined to show up/watch games. If that happens in large enough numbers, the franchise could be imperiled in that location.

Its already happened in Baltimore with the Colts, Cleveland with the Browns, San Diego with the Chargers, Los Angeles with the Rams, and St Louis with the Cardinals AND the Rams. People can make the argument that these cities don't deserve franchises if they don't support them, but the league wants to grow and increase total revenue.....and if you want to grow your league, you actually have to ADD franchises/cities... not just move them around.

I would rather see a college recruiting type system. That way no player would be considered out of your draft range.
It's more free market and doesn't force a player to play were he doesn't want to.

Very good points. It would make tanking a little bit of a gamble.

I’m in favor of a lottery but some equalisation. I think two draws, draw 1 a non playoff lottery with the bottom four teams getting 2 balls. And a playoff lottery with the bottom 4 teams in the playoff getting 2 balls.

I don’t think anybody tanks for a 1/10 chance at the no.1 pick.

Cleveland is the black hole of the NFL. Supposedly good players go there and are never heard of again. Wasn't Myles Garrett supposed to be the next Harvey Martin/Reggie White/Bruce Smith, etc.? Has anyone heard a single word about him since he went there?

Must be the area, the old Browns leave for Baltimore and in in just a few years, bingo! Super Bowl win. It's a wonder ANY draftee wouldn't sit out a year rather than play for the Browns...

This would never work. All the top players would decide to go to the established winners. Leaving the bottom teams to get the lesser players. NFL is never going to do this, even if it would be a free market. College does this because there is no way you can have a draft of that many college teams at all those levels.

Agree 100%

A Win the previous season should never be punished and teams that quit and tank shouldn't get rewarded

It can still be weighted but all 20 non-playoff teams should be drawn at random but the most spots you can fall or rise is 10...... that would keep teams trying to Win games in December and the worst teams would still have a good shot at a Top 10 pick.... it just shouldn't be guaranteed

It could even be a TV event.... Do it halftime or post game of the ProBowl

Agreed. I'm for anything system that prevents tanking.
Make it so that no one controls where they pick. The only thing with that though, Goodell would never give the cowboys a top 10 pick. He has it in for Jerry.

BUT
Why would they do that? They'd do it because some teams are ran better. Some teams make good decisions.
It would force owners and GMs to get their acts together.

If anyone's down, I'll join you. We can all connect and discuss when to boycott.
