You have to ask yourself exactly what the Seahawks are doing.

They've shipped out age and salary all over the team. And they've also switched out their entire coaching staff save for the head coach.

That's a rebuild. And you don't rebuild with a high-priced, 29-year old safety looking for another contract.

And you don't rebuild without draft picks. They can say whatever they want, but they're angling for as many draft picks as they can get for their rebuild.

I see what's happening in Seattle. And the rest of the league does too.
 
If ET didn't go into the Cowboys locker room and make that statement this wouldn't ever be talked about. ET will be wearing a Seahawks uniform next season most likely.
 
Don’t give up any of our picks. It would not be wise to give up picks and pay load of money to a aging player. We have some young safeties and can draft another.
 
I would be annoyed too if we sent a 1st and 3rd away for Thomas. Third round pick take it or leave it, way too many other needs. Plus Boston, Reid, and Vaccaro are all out there as possible options. None are Thomas, but are upgrades.

2nd and that 4th comp should get it done as the draft gets closer. Just depends if the team wants to

I'm not giving that up either.

A 3rd rounder is as high as I will go.

As well as $10 million a year in salary.

If Earl Thomas at 29 years old wants more than that, he can stay Seattle's problem.

This team has too many future huge deals looming to tak on yet another huge contract.

How can you say that at this point with not knowing who is going to be there or what else happens....thomas is good but his time is going to run out sooner than a 22 year old kid that we draft....

It's not just about the point in time it's about assembling a team that can have sustainable success for years to come....and giving up high picks for guys that are on the back side of their career is not the way to do it
 
A 4th and maybe Brown or Jones is as high as i would go. Seattle has no bargaining power and they know it. They have a player that went out of his way to make it known he wants to come home.

Lol earl Thomas was a 2nd team all pro in 2017. He’s on the backside? Dez is on the backside. Thomas is still arguably if not the best one of the best safeties in the game.

YES. Folks will have thier opinions, but the fact is.. we absolutely need veteran leadership on the back end of this young secondary. As talented as our young DBs are, the obvious upgrade and experience of a player like Thomas to facilitate Kris Richards scheme is worth trading for.

Seattle dosent have a 2nd or 3rd pick, so they don’t have much leverage whether they want to admit it or not, not to mention they need a reasonably priced veteran WR themselves. I’m with a few others on this thread. I’d give a 3rd and possibly a WR like Williams, Switzer, or Beasley to make it happen.

Giving the above scenario.. let’s say Williams in traded. Dallas gets a proven veteran true FS to help the young DBs and still would be able to add a top tier WR in the draft to go along with Hurns, Beasley, Thompson, Lenoir, Brown, and Switzer.

They’re probably not directly connected. Dez was just not worth the cap he was taking up. Signing Thomas is probably more about getting a workable deal than it was about immediate cap space or the trade compensation.

I can't see how they would be. If they had a deal with Seattle, they t would have been done the minute Dez was cut - if it was about needing to free up the money

I won't argue that, but he wasn't "worth the cap hit" in March either. If they were going to make this move, I don't see the sense in waiting. I don't see logic in the timing, but I do see where some emotion - possibly spite - may have been involved.

Signing Thomas is probably more about getting a workable deal than it was about immediate cap space or the trade compensation.

It's all part of the picture for me. I'm not willing to pay him some huge contract, nor am I willing to part with a 2nd round draft pick for a high-cost, 29-year old player. I think that several factors need to be considered in any potential deal.

Is it just a coincidence that ET's cap hit in trade is exactly what we gained from cutting Dez?

I think not. In the Dez paradox, the "where there's smoke there's fire" addage fit. It fits here too.



I also apologize for making this observation.
