Possible ET trade: legit or dead?

Not that my opinion has any weight but I believe during the draft weekend it happens. I think it will be for a 2nd this year and maybe a conditional next year. Seattle has no 2 or 3 this year and they can’t afford to hold out much longer. Because this is a deep draft first 3 rounds is why I think Seattle will do it.

Seattle has no Position on the negotiation table. They know that ET will walk next season for nothing.

They either take what they can get this year or watch him leave for free next season.

Id offer our 4th Rounder this Year and Next Years 4th. Thats about it.

This strikes me as a standoff between the two teams to see who blinks first.

Seattle knows that Dallas is interested.

Dallas knows that Seattle is rebuilding and isn't going to sign Thomas to a huge extension.

They either move him now or watch him walk next year.

I give the Cowboys credit for being patient and waiting and I think they should continue to do so.

What scares me is they don't wait past the draft. I hope a draft day deal isn't brewing and they hop on whatever their demanding price is. The longer they keep him the cheaper the price should be. We will already be paying him a big salary with a new contract....that should lower his value alone.

They want something earlier than a 4th. And a 5th next year does nothing for them this year. That's a crap deal. Not happening. Dallas will give them a better take or leave deal that won't make fans feel vary good.

Don't care what Seattle wants. That's what I would do or they can keep a disgruntled player and get nothing for him when he signs with Dallas next season.

The reason I think (and have read) Seattle won’t go for anything in the 4th or later, and it is a risk, is that they SHOULD get a 3rd round comp out of what his contract/play will be if he walks in FA.
Clearly he could get hurt, or they could cancel out comp picks with additions next offseason.

Yeah but that comp pick won't come until a year after he leaves. So they are looking at getting a comp pick for him 2 years from now as opposed to getting either a pick in this years draft or the next. Its in their best interest to get a pick as soon as possible to not waste Russell's prime years.

Also is there a big competitive situation for Thomas amongst other teams? If not why in the world would you offer 50? Offer them 116 and go form there.

Giving them 50 and 4 is insanity and I can’t believe broaddus thinks it’s a good idea and then seeing all the people he works with repeat his foolish opinion and then all the people who follow him on twitter repeat it is kind of crazy.

Seattle needs picks badly. They're also assuredly going to let ET walk next year. They're going to try and rebuild.

I think a 2nd gets it done on draft night.

I can see it both ways. But the reasoning for him is that we don't want to get stuck in a 2014 or 2016 situation where a guy like ET in the secondary can make or break a title run.

With how our pass rush is shaping up and the young corners looking really good. If Jaylon comes back, the defense could be in a great spot if we need a stop or two in a playoff game against a Rodgers/Ryan/Goff.

There would be a lot more competition for ET if he wasn't being so overt about wanting to be here. He's basically telling other teams, "You can rent me for a year if you want, but I'm going to Dallas after this season anyway."

That is hurting Seattle in this. That's why Dallas should offer a 3rd, or perhaps both 4ths, in good faith. Otherwise, Seattle is better off to just wait for the comp pick or trade him during the season once injuries start to hit teams.

Its hard to say. I don't think he fits what Seattle usually throws out there at end. But their defense has had so much turnover from coaches to players that I'm not even sure if they want to go in the same direction. I think they'd do it as opposed to getting a comp pick for him.


I honestly don't think I'd do it. Earl Thomas is a great player. Or I Think he's a great player anyway if he doesn't have a drop off this year. But he's going to be 30 and need a new contract. He's looking to be one of the highest paid secondary players in the league. Cowboys are inheriting a lot of risk here. its risk to even sign the contract. Now I'm giving up last years 1st rounder?

I get why you don't do it. You think he's Ebenezer Ekuban 2.0. And he very well may be that. But I think he's going to be a solid lineman in this league and a starter for us. So I'm higher on him and wouldn't trade him for a few years of Earl Thomas.
