There would be a lot more competition for ET if he wasn't being so overt about wanting to be here. He's basically telling other teams, "You can rent me for a year if you want, but I'm going to Dallas after this season anyway."

That is hurting Seattle in this. That's why Dallas should offer a 3rd, or perhaps both 4ths, in good faith. Otherwise, Seattle is better off to just wait for the comp pick or trade him during the season once injuries start to hit teams.

He wants to get paid. I am sure he will play for anyone that will pay him.

Yeah but that comp pick won't come until a year after he leaves. So they are looking at getting a comp pick for him 2 years from now as opposed to getting either a pick in this years draft or the next. Its in their best interest to get a pick as soon as possible to not waste Russell's prime years.

Very true. They would have his services for this year too though. Not that they are a contender, they are rebuilding. I see why they need to move him and the quicker they do the better. Doesn’t mean they will take just any offer but clearly value now is better than the 2020 draft.

I seem to recall a certain HOF TE on this very team who was weighing his options for retirement as well not to long ago. People are emotional after losses or injuries. Its just human nature.

yep. in the end we're paying for past success and nothing is guaranteed. nothing against thomas but we're far more than 1 player away at this point. we need our picks to build long term, not give away for immediate YAY LOOK AT US stuff.

Dallas already knows what he wants for a contract and knows what they will offer. They probably settled that long ago.

This is about what will Dallas get at 19 and how that affects the rest of the weekend. If they get a LB at 19 and feel they need a wr at 50 or higher there is no chance they move 50 for Thomas.

I just can’t see Dallas with this current roster giving away 50 or 81 and then handing out a huge contract to a near 30 year old player. It’s the opposite of what they have been doing.

They can’t do anything until they know the situation with 19 and what is available at 50. There is a bigger chance they trade up in the second round for a wr that falls I think than for Thomas.

Thomas will be a free agent next year and it’s a long way to the season starting and Seattle may be forced to move Thomas before camp. Dallas should. It be giving away premium picks on the weekend of the draft, it’s bad business

I'd jump on it once it becomes a 4th. I'd be willing to add some picks from 2019 as well if that will sweeten the deal.

We have an extra 4th. Even if we give a 3rd for ET, we could take both 4ths and perhaps a 5th to get into the 3rd round.

10 draft picks aren't making the team.

If we came out of this with Payne or a LB, Earl Thomas, a receiver, and a guard, this would be an excellent offseason.

I don't think they feel the need to grab a receiver high. Dak isn't a "wide receiver" type of QB anyway. I think they like the receivers they have and are OK to stand pat there.

They do need to address guard, and of course, the defense.

They spent a lot of time with wr who will go late in the first and second round.

We don’t know how the offensive line is going to go because we don’t know if Collins is a guard again or still a tackle. If we knew that answer we would know how big of a need they view guard. If Collins is the guard then there is no chance we draft one.

I am not saying go get Thomas or that getting him will fix what I am about to say.

That said, it is true that a safety does not win games but our defense has been actively losing them for us for years. We all knew that Green Bay was going to win that game last year after we scored late, just like they did to us in the playoffs the year before. Countless times our defense has lost games, after we took the lead late, over the last 5-10 years.

At what point do we add money to positions that are actually losing us games? Tired of hearing that QB, RB, and WR win games while we do nothing about the defense handing us a loss on the final drive 2 or 3 times a year. I hate looking at the clock and saying "they left too much time, we are going to lose" over and over again.

We have had high priced QBs, RBs, and WRs on the roster to win us games. It hasn't worked. For as good as they were, they were unable to overcome a defense that folds like a tent in the last 2 minutes because we don't spend enough money on talent for that side of the ball.
