Dallas wins in that scenario. That brings 3-4 years of brilliant safety play, which is far better than what a 3rd is likely to bring.

1. You have to sign him to an extension to get 3-4 years of safety play.

2. There's zero assurance it'll be "great", but plenty of history to suggest it'll be something less than his past.

3. Three things could happen and two of them are bad: he's great for 3-4 years, he's great for one year then leaves, he's not-so-great for 3-4 years with an inflated contract.

They don't understand why the price for earl is so high.

You gotta remember Thomas almost retired a year or so ago due to a scary injury.

I think Dallas is transitioning to a cover 3 base defense and they don't have a true centerfielder on this team and really don't see one in the draft.

That is why you could see this trade. He's the best Cover 3 safety in football and it gets Byron moved back to corner.

I am not saying go get Thomas or that getting him will fix what I am about to say.

That said, it is true that a safety does not win games but our defense has been actively losing them for us for years. We all knew that Green Bay was going to win that game last year after we scored late, just like they did to us in the playoffs the year before. Countless times our defense has lost games, after we took the lead late, over the last 5-10 years.

At what point do we add money to positions that are actually losing us games? Tired of hearing that QB, RB, and WR win games while we do nothing about the defense handing us a loss on the final drive 2 or 3 times a year. I hate looking at the clock and saying "they left too much time, we are going to lose" over and over again.

We have had high priced QBs, RBs, and WRs on the roster to win us games. It hasn't worked. For as good as they were, they were unable to overcome a defense that folds like a tent in the last 2 minutes because we don't spend enough money on talent for that side of the ball.

It didn't last year because Zeke was gone and we couldn't control the ball and time of possession like in 2016. We had about the same defense in 2016 and won 13 games. Our #1 WR for the last 3 years was very much not what we needed from a player being compensated like he was and now he's
been handed his hat. We will get a new safety in this draft and he just might be a pretty good player. I like the Stephen stay the course approach
and we have a chance to be better than average this year.

Since we're only couple days from the draft, I'm curious if you think the ET trade has legs or Cowboys have likely moved on. Personally, I have no problem with it as long we do not give 2018 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick. I'd consider a conditional 2018 4th and 2019 conditional 2nd.

Hawk--- i hope we get ET cause our backfield then would instantaneously become "elite"....no way we will give up a #1...and yes it might be a bit painful if we gave up a #2...but we have gone years screwing up our #2 picks until just recently..and i am talking so recent..last year with Awuzie
now if Gregory can make a comeback i will include 2015 if he balls out...and Lawrence has had one really good year...so the pain of giving up a 2 i could live with if ET could remain healthy and ball out...it all is just a crap shoot anyway....taking taco last year was a waste seeing how a number #1 unless its a QB should be an instant prime starter....no one really knows...so many factors that come into play on getting players....all i can say is..GO COWBOYS ..HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS

One has to ask, what's the market for Thomas, because other than Dallas, who he wants to play for, what other team is clamoring for him, and what leverage does Seattle have??? I'd wait for the draft to see how things fall into place and if Thomas is still there I'd offer a third round pick for him but I'm hoping James falls to us in the first round

Unless Dallas has time to negotiate an extension with Thomas, I see that price dropping dramatically. No way they should give up higher than a 4th or 5th round pick in this years draft, on what could equate to a one year rental.

Any trade Dallas agrees too with Seattle will involve prior contract extension parameters worked out with his agent prior to any trade
