If James, Fitzgerald, Vea, Payne, Edmunds and Smith are gone then trade back and pick up a Day 2 pick and use that to get Thomas. You will still have plenty of ammo to fill out your roster.

Without Earl Thomas, the Giants and Eagles are going to absolutely torch our young secondary.

ET is needed not only for his elite ability, but to quarterback and teach these talented young guys.

This biggest positive I see is that Richard was his coach for years. If anyone has any intel on him it would be him.

But you also have to factor in the possibility that Derwin James isn't a for sure elite player, but Earl Thomas is a proven elite talent.

The first 4 rounds this year is STACKED. This is not the year to be getting rid of quality picks. I love ET, but we have too many holes to fill.

One of them being safety, no? Admittedly, I'm not high idea of trading for Thomas and giving him an outrageous contract but if we could get the guy for a 3rd? I'd seriously start considering it.

That was my thing with cutting Dez. I don't mind it if we use that extra cap space to get a good player. That's a win for this team. But just cutting him and not using that money, that's just making our team worse.

So if we use Dez's extra space to get Earl Thomas, cutting Dez was the right move.

You are right and it's a chance but I'd go with the cheaper younger talent at this point personally

Apparently Cowboy fans (with Burnt Orange Lenses) are willing to give up multiple premium draft picks for a 29 old safety who's also looking to be paid as one of the highest (if not the highest safeties salary in the NFL). So not only do Dallas give up multiple draft picks but will take a huge hit in available FA money in regards to building depth.

Cowboy fans are willing to take the "wait & see approach" with Taco until the game slows down for him but ready to wash their hands with Woods as our FS going forward, despite Woods being more productive in his rookie year.

Thomas can teach our secondary how to play this game. He can quarterback them every play, making sure they line up correctly and know their assignments.

Apparently Seattle has dropped their price to 2 and 4. Dallas can probably make them bend to just a 2 and I think that’s fair

Stats do not show remotely the whole picture with zone S. ET and his range plus smarts has a cascading effect where he makes other guys in coverage better. Not to mention how he further limits big plays and dramatically improves coverage in the middle of the field.

Exactly, I have no clue why anyone would give up a 2 for 1 yr when you can get him next year.
