I’d do that deal if they agree to take any 2nd round pick. I’d then try and trade down a few times in the 2nd, even if I didn’t get value. Trade down in the 2nd, pick up a 4th, and then trade the lower 2nd and 4th you just picked up. There you go, ET only cost #50.

I get the impression from the pressure we will not be giving away any of OUR high picks for a trade. But what if we got an EXTRA 2nd or 3rd? IMO then it's on......

I agree wholeheartedly. If you have to give up the farm, it should be for a young stud. I love ET, really do, but I just can't see giving up what they are asking for, when he is as old as he is. I think he is one of the best currently in the game at what he does, but I am not convinced he can keep doing it at that level for an entire contract.

That would effectively be a 1st for ET.

And Seattle wouldn't do it.

I honestly dont see any of those players when it comes to Taco. Especially Carver or Pittman. They just werent NFL caliber

No deal will be made without an extension. They may have permission to speak with his agent as I type this. We don’t know.

Since we're only couple days from the draft, I'm curious if you think the ET trade has legs or Cowboys have likely moved on. Personally, I have no problem with it as long we do not give 2018 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick. I'd consider a conditional 2018 4th and 2019 conditional 2nd.

Im on board with a 3rd, what player are you going to draft that can make as big of an impact as Thomas? I get that his career may be shorter than a rookie, but many 3rd round picks don't even make it on the team for 4 years. Top safeties have remained productive into atleast their early 30s.

They can franchise him if they chose to as high end safety avg really isn’t that outrageous. Hell they may even save money on the yr. on top of that, the comp pick will likely be higher than a 4th.

No doubt JS screwed the pooch last year with trades. As for not having 2nd and 3rd round Picks this year, correct. That’s why they will trade 18 to recover those 2nd and 3rd rounders, as Seattle is famous for trading out of the first round.

Its still hard to not think about the idea that we would be giving up a 2nd round pick to get 1 extra season from ET. His free agency coming in 16 games is why its so hard.
Now im not a big fan of trading up for James either. I would rather roll the dice on Reid from San Fran for the 1 season and then look at ET when he is a free agent next offseason...

Only issue to me is the foregone conclusion he hits the market next offseason. Seattle or any team that potentially trades for him can easily tag him for the following year and (unlikely) the year after that as well. On top of the fact that even though I’m not bothered by his age right now, getting him one year younger certainly can’t hurt

I want ET as much as anyone here but no way I'm giving them premium picks for what amounts to a one year rental when we could wait a year and keep all our picks. No first, no second, no third this year. I'll offer a fourth this year and something near that next year.

I agree. Seattle needs picks. They don't have a 2nd or 3rd plus no money for free agents. They can't keep a disgruntled player. Seattle has no high ground or leverage in this case

There's too much smoke here for this to not be a thing. At the very least, the two sides have worked out the parameters of a deal and now it's a matter of seeing how the draft shakes out.
