Raiders fans on Jihad Ward

I dont think raiders fans ever thought he was the 2nd coming of ho

Lawrence had at least shown flashes in the playoffs in year 1.
This guy has shown nothing. Hoping a change if scenery is a help. It doesn't help he was over drafted either..
How do you know he had neverv flashed?

He won't ignore me. I just sent him a wheel of Casu Marzu. You know how hard that is to get?
Well... not that hard, but bringing it into America! Well, that's not too hard either, but eating it once you get it!!!
That's hard.

maggot cheese?

Can you say "Golden Cock"? They managed to squeeze a little sumptin out of that turd.

Jihad just needs a good nickname and he's in.

They did? I think he is the only Cowboys player i have ever hated. Watching him get blown of the ball 15 yards on a combo block made me very mad.

You should see what fans said about Lawrence after 2 years. And if we'd have traded him many would have said much worse than what is in that thread.

In fact just look at what people are saying about "soft Taco" now. You'd think fans would learn their lessons....

Well he is a soft taco. Bland, soggy, wilted lettuce soft Taco.

I don't recall fans saying Manster, Dorrsett, Roger, Lilly, Pearson, Too Tall, Maryland, E Smith, Woodson, Novaceck, Irvin, T Smith, Allen gone.

Randy White was considered a bust.....when he played LB. People wanted him gone although most just complained about the lost pick.

hey Tech----- it seems coaching staff is not as concerned at the 1-tech as we fans are?....i have this feeling though that the cowboys overestimate their players at times

We gave up 7 rushing TDs and 1664 yds rushing. The 7 is good. We were 25th in rushing yards per game given up. So we could definitely improve. However, we scored 10 ppg or less 4 times. That gives the opposing offense a lot of opportunities and also a lot of time running out the clock. In 2016 we gave up 1336 on 60 less carries. We had the ball more than the other teams most of the time.

So we aren't really that bad at run defense. That's why the staff isn't going bonkers trying to bolster the run defense. It's adequate. We spent our resources addressing the needs of the team. Most PPG given up are via the pass. Our three UDFA DBs look very good. All three.

We're in much better shape now. Lee and Wilson and Smith can play cover along with LVE. Hopefully, Gregory is back and helps out. We have the rush now to help the back 7.

We gave up 332 points or 20.8 PPG and ranked 13 out of 32 teams. We will be much better and I suspect we will get into the 17 PPG range which is a winner.

Let not your heart be troubled.

this is very very simple. we just traded a 4th round WR that was essentially just a punt returner and WR 5/6 for a 3rd or 4th DT that was a 2nd round pick.
anyone who hates that move was just a big switz fan.

DTs get overdrafted which is why Dallas NEVER seems to draft one. They find them on the scrap heap and those guys they identify tend to produce.

The biggest weakness in the 2017 defense was an inability to get stops on 3rd down. The Cowboys were 29th - only San Fran, Indianapolis, and Tampa Bay allowed a higher percentage of conversions.

While the PPG were better than 29th, allowing a couple more first downs gives you worse field position when your offense takes the field. It's tough to drive 80 yards all day.

Here is Brugler's take on ward from his draft guide.

2014: (13/13) 51 8.5 3.0 2015: (12/12) 53 3.5 1.5 Total: (25/25) 104 12.0 4.5

2 (Illinois) 1 (Illinois) 3

BACKGROUND: A three-star defensive end recruit, Ward received interest from Penn State and Temple out of high school, but didn’t qualify academically and decided to go the JUCO route – didn’t play football until high school and was a wide receiver and safety until moving to the defensive line as a senior. Ward played two seasons at Globe Tech (Time Square in New York City) and was a three-star JUCO recruit, committing to Illinois over West Virginia and several other programs. He earned a starting defensive end job as a junior in 2014 and recorded 51 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors. Ward started all 12 games as a senior in 2015, recording 53 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks to earn All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors for the second straight year. He accepted his invitation to the 2016 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Tall, moldable frame with thick thighs – doesn’t skip leg day...moves extremely well for a man his size, showing smooth change of direction and rangy pursuit...lateral quickness to stunt and shave angles...long arms and uses his length to control the edges and hold contain...can create a push with initial momentum, driving blockers backwards...clear sightlines to survey the backfield due to his height...strong hands to corral ballcarriers...fantastic effort with a motor that never quits, cleaning up several plays due to his hustle...good head on his shoulders (father figure at home) with respected commitment – struggled through two years of junior college at a program not ideally built for football, including two-hour commutes each day, but persevered due to his motivation to advance his career...versatile experience at both defensive end and inside at defensive tackle.

WEAKNESSES: Tends to play high, allowing blockers to attack his chest and cut his legs...inconsistent punch timing and still learning how to use his length...doesn’t consistently convert speed to power with unpolished mechanics...streaky snap anticipation, often the last to move off the ball...late to diagnose and tends to think too much – ball instincts are still in the development phase...blockers keep him busy and lack of physicality stands out, preferring to go around bodies instead of responding with his hands...high motor player, but needs to ramp up the aggressiveness at the contact point...below average production for his skill-set, combining for just 4.5 sacks in 25 starts.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Illinois, Ward played primarily at left and right defensive end in a four-man front, kicking inside to defensive tackle on some passing downs. He has above average movement skills for a 300-pounder, but has received the “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” label from several around the league due to his physical traits not translating to football production. Despite his point of attack issues, Ward is coachable and effort isn’t question on film, rallying to the ball and pushing himself on and off the field. Although he is a developmental project right now, he is a lump of clay worth developing due to his raw traits and should be a better pro than college player – scheme-versatile with potential to play both inside and outside.

It's really difficult to judge the 2017 defense as a whole.
The defense was essentially being remade on the fly. And early is was terrible in about every way other than sacks.
The last month that defense was excellent in all areas and those are the guys(minus only Hitchens) they are bringing back this year.

The offense had the opposite transition from good to not so good to awful.
The OL losing it's LT and Zeke being suspended killed the offense.
So you can see the team saw that and thus pick 50 was on an OL, they signed 2 proven vet back up OL and added a RB from Bama that hands out concussions.
They didn't like the WR mix as teams had figured it out and could shut it down on 3rd down so they rebooted the whole thing.

This HAS to be THE dumbest FO, HC and drafting bunch ever. WHO in their right mind trades a a 2nd year 4th for a dead beat washout 2nd pick DT? This has to be the dumbest move during this draft. Goedirt was sitting there, these morons KNEW Witten was probably taking the MNF job, and they let the damn eagles move up ahead and take him... I'm just about over this clown troop. When is the clapping carrot going to come out on the field and sing his mickey mouse club house song! For petes sakes.
