Will McClay: Dez Bryant was inconsistent, couldn’t win one-on-one

This is how good this front office is...all the WRs underperform so they cut, don’t resign, and trade the current group. The moves they have done are complete question marks and projections of what we and the team thinks should happen this season.

Jason Witten just didn’t up and decide to retire for a reason. If Witten thought he had another chance to win a SB he wouldn’t be mulling retirement. Voluntary OTAs are underway, and Witten is one of the guys that always leads the workouts which is why any Cowboy fan should be worried why he decided to do this...at this point in the year? Maybe he doesn’t see the group having a legit shot?

After the LAC loss Wade Wilson told the staff in the evaluation meeting that for the first time he saw Dak lose confidence in the execution of the offense. That’s pretty damning.

It’s easier to replace everyone else instead of the QB. Once you start playing musical chairs with that position you might as well look at the draft because your team is out of it. This season is going to answer the question if Dak really is a franchise QB.

So instead they should build their whole offense around a 30 year old WR, who relies on his physical gifts to make up for his mental mistakes.

I don't see why it is so hard to understand that an organization is going to build around their young franchise QB.

Even if Dez could still beat single coverage on a regular basis, this comment by Will McClay is much more telling in my opinion.

There was inconsistency as well as some huge things in his play.

Call out the obvious? Come on man, anyone with the slightest understanding of football can see that he can't separate.

Another clue should've been when opposing teams started to defend him with single coverage WITH success.

None of this is news.

Whether he rushed back, or all the injuries, or not improving his craft, or being a pain in everyone's backside or whatever, Dez is no longer a #1, which is what I and many others have been stating for a while now.

Thank you. It’s nice to read posts from fans who know what they are talking about. The truth is Dez can no longer get away from just being more athletic than the other guy. Age and injuries have caught up with him.
He can still be a number 2 somehwere though. Perfect team for him would be the Packers.

He should have listened to Julio and never rushed back from his injury. Even if 99% of his situation is his doing, I recall many people saying the organization was screwing him over, as it would seriously risk his athleticism.

Wish him well, don't think it's a good look for Will to call out things like that.

HE should have honed his skills..like route running and learning the whole tree. Maybe he's a Cowboy today if he does so.

I remember a game; Thanksgiving 1994: Our 1st and 2nd string QB's were injured and Jason Garrett started at QB. His passes weren't overly accurate but the receivers WENT AND GOT THE BALL.

Dak wasn't accurate on those downfield throws. Some of that was his fault, some of it was Dez's, but it really doesn't matter. If the quarterback and his lead receiver can't connect, something has to change.

This is the truest thing ever said, but I'm not that sure the cure is going to be any better.

Kirwin day Dez needs to sign real soon, and get as much off season training as he can, because the longer he waits, the harder for him to master an new offense. If he doesn’t sign til training camp, he won’t be of any use, because he has a hard time learning the offense.

They did and I'm glad we did as it was getting stale. However, it's hard to judge anyone in this crap scheme. I think it could have been better if they ran crossing patterns, rub routes, etc but when it all comes down to it Dez and Twill are just not very good.

How much impact did WR coach Sanjay Lal have on changing the wide receiver cast? I suspect he wanted a new receivers group to manage. Thoughts ....

Baltimore offered him a multi-year deal (before the draft), but he turned them down. Why? Because he's more interested in sticking it to the Cowboys.

Dude just isn't very bright.

I still have a little trouble with NO ONE showing any interest.

Kind of bizarre.

It says it all about Bryant's talent level--and his expectations. He's thinking he's still something special and should get a big check and lots of balls thrown his way.

The league sees him as a 'meh' #2 receiver with waning athleticism.

32 teams are conveying their view: Dez you ain't all that.

Makes me sad a little as I know how much he loves football. Since he really didn't have much of a family or a dad...he's found a bit of both in the league. I imagine he's feeling a bit like an orphaned child right now.
