Anyone know Austin’s contract numbers? The PFT article about this says he signed a 4 year $42 million deal in 2016. I hope a lot of that was signing bonus and in the first two years because that trade doesn’t look as good if he is making that kind of money.
He re-worked his deal with the Rams this offseason. He is now on a 1-year, $7 million contract. After the trade, Dallas is responsible for $3 million - $1 million in guaranteed salary and $2 million in roster bonus money.

I think of it more in terms of who you'll have to take touches away from to make that happen.
Alot of fans are thinking of Austin coming in to give zeke a rest. I don't think that' the case. I think Austin is on the field with zeke as another option and when zeke goes out Smith or Bo comes in and Austin is still out there.

So he really doesn't take touches away from nobody at the RB position. Also factor in the TE situation that Dallas may not use as much as they even did when witten was here. Austin will compensate for that too.

Austin's combined touches could be greater even with zeke. Yall are not getting the big picture on how Austin will be used in this dak friendly offense.

Austin will not be giving zeke a break, he will be on the field with zeke. And if things breakdown at the wr and TE spot they will lean heavily on Austin and zeke

Zeke being zeke, and Austin being the safety net.

Here's hoping the staff sees fit to stick to their optimistic plans for Tavon.

As long as he manages to tuck that ball high and tight, perhaps they will.
Sometimes, the switch to another team can produce big benefits.

And by the way, if Scarborough plays well in preseason, don't assume they can stash him on the practice squad. Teams are always looking for cheap RBs.

Let's set a record for 3rd down conversion percentage and get everyone to the table. Cowboys covering all bases from A to Z:thumbup:

What's the average plays in the NFL, 65-70 per game? And Tavon is getting 33% of those?

Only the cowboys have their COO talking about playing time, touches, and positions for players. What the hell do we have coaches for.

I don't think a dozen isn't such a bad idea if he is our returner as well and that includes PR and KR. The problem with Austin could be the same problem we always have with gadget guys. He won't be on the field much unless he's getting the ball so when you see 10 the defense knows where it's going.

I hope we'll have a downfield threat thanks to Austin. I've been concerned we'll have a dink and dunk pass offense and a running game that always faces 8-man fronts.

If this happens then Dak is at least guaranteed league minimum after this first contract.

He may be on the field for that many snaps
Getting him that many touches would be insane

Lucky got about 2-3 touches per game on offense. I’d imagine that’s what Tavon can look forward to IF he hangs onto the ball.

No way 24 touches happen. 12 might be possible especially counting returns. If you remember one year we stated we were planning on utilizing Dunbar more. I think it was 2015. He opened the season with like a 8-10 catch game. We were using him a lot the first couple games. Then, of course he got hurt in like game 3 or 4 and was out for the season I believe. The problem was he was about as tuff as an 8 year old girl trying to play pro football. I think Austin will be better in the role and seems to be much more durable.

Nope, not a misprint! Stephen Jones must love him some Tavon Austin.

Edit. Totally need more coffee, I misspelled Stephen Jones. I rock.

puff he doesnt call plays and games and opponents dictate that..you dont go into most games with a player like TA and say oh hes getting 12plus touches.. sorry our Oline, zeke and dak are the only players we know will carry most of the snaps..everything else will be dictated by circumstance..

Probably more like 8-9 times a game combining the Dunbar and Whitehead snaps, not including his role as KR/PR.

I think it's more likely he'll be out there for 12 to 24 plays, and maybe that's what Jones actually meant. He'll be faked the ball on end arounds and jet sweeps. He'll come out of the backfield or slot and the ball will be thrown elsewhere. Etc.

I was thinking the same thing. I generally don't read into what the FO says, there are times they're 100% accurate and honest and then other times off balance. But this feels like a difference in meaning as you said.

That would make more sense
