For the life of me, I don't get why people don't like this player.

I hate that he is slimming him up to play end. IMO, especially early in the season, we need him as a 3-tech while Collins gets back in the groove ... and I believe we have lots of end candidates. To me, Crawford's best spot is 3-tech, where his quickness can be too much for guards and he's got adequate power at around 290 to not be a liability against the run.

If by the end of the preseason we see that we need him to start at end, then we can work on slimming him down.

No offense to the OP, as always I very much appreciate your efforts.

But that vid doesn't exactly make a compelling case for Crawford at DE. If you notice, he's "wreaking havoc" against a veritable "who's that?" Of backup linemen. None of the guys he's giving a hard time to are the actual starters for those teams.

In fact, I think one of them was former Dallas practice squander John Wetzel.

For the life of me, I don't get why people don't like this player.

For me? Two reasons:
  1. Contract. It's been awful for years. There's no sugar-coating that.
  2. He's a miscast player who's never had a true fit since the team transitioned from the 3-4 they drafted him to play in.
But he has many positives as well and he's truly a team guy.

I will say however, I'm not sure that having him drop weight to play end full time is the wisest move right now. I see a glut at that spot and far too few options inside.

Great minds think alike.

I actually thought about the possibility before the draft. If Murray could truly accept a backup role. But I think that ship has sailed and he, like Peterson, will now have to wait for a starter to get injured.

Maybe Murray ends up in New Orleans to fill in for Ingram's suspension?

Got paid like an elite player and hasn't performed to his pay grade.

I get that the contract wasn't a good one for the team, but that's not a reason to hate on the guy. Plus, people overstate how much he really got paid. He got 5/$45 with $17MM guaranteed. That's a lot, but it's not ridiculous. For example the two "elite" salaries closest to him at his position go to Jerry Hughes (BUF) and Derek Wolfe (DEN).
