T Crawford, like it or not, is one of the best defensive linemen on the team. When he played DT, he was a starter. When they move him to DE, he is a starter. It's not his fault no one can beat him out. We actually have a ton of bodies for DT, especially the 3-tech, so I think it makes perfect sense to keep him at DE. Besides DLaw, who's going to play at DE? Maybe Taco, maybe Ealy, maybe Armstrong, Tapper, Jones? That's a lot of maybes and wannabees. Crawford has proven he can stop the run at DE and bring pressure; gaining a little quickness may also result in sacks.
In my mind the best front four we have is still
DLaw -- Collins -- Irving -- Crawford
until the young guys can prove it or take his position away. In passing situations, maybe one of the young kids comes in at DE and Crawford moves inside for Collins. At least we have lots of possibilities across the DL this year, and if Crawford ever drops out of the rotation or someone proves to be just as good, then we can stop whining about his contract.
