Please do not turn this into a political issue and do not start a pro or anti gun debate.

An example really needs to be made with these kid shootings, just not sure what though. 1 quick solution is all schools need to have restricted access where all students and teachers need to go through metal detectors just like at the airports. Yeah it sucks but this is the day and age we live in.

Agreed, I know people freak out when the word "wall" is mentioned but a quick fix might be to build a type of barrier to high schools. Only have a few entry/exit points with detectors.

This seems to be the fad these days, so make it difficult to get a gun in at least. It is too easy for anyone to come and go as they please.

I don't like the idea of caging students but enough is enough.

Very sad.. not sure what the answer is? Seems like metal detectors is the way to go. Each school has a fundraiser and gets one. Something like that? Horrible for the kids and parents to go through that.

Yes metal detectors could help but also create new issues. Behind the detector(s) is the queue of those waiting to pass through. That would seem to me to be a vulnerable point for those waiting in line. This is a horrible situation, copy cat traits appear to be involved here and I'm scratching my head trying to come up with ideas to address.

Metal detectors means fully time security to man them and every entrance. Is that really feasible? (like court houses)

Instead, we could have MASSIVE electromagnets. This way, if someone tried to enter the building with a piece of metal. They would be slammed against the magnet killing them instantly. This would prevent them from shooting anyone inside. o_O

Just terrible, that HS is only about 20 miles from my hometown, even have a friend who teaches there. These cowards think this is a cool trend to shoot up schools these days :(
One of my closest friends works at UTMB and she said it is a nightmare around there right now. That school is very close to her home in Dickinson.

Yea, SF and Dickinson are pretty close together, Galveston is 20 miles away or so. I believe UTMB is the closest trauma hospital.

Not about caging, it is about protection. I just can't fathom what fears go through the minds of parents of high school kids today. When my kids were that age, something like this wouldn't even enter my nightmares and now it is the sad reality we live with too often.

It is, I called her when I saw where this was. She said it was chaotic but her staff was handling it very well considering some know the victims or victims' families.

Mine are getting closer to that age. What was once a random event is now becoming a harsh reality and my opinions change as they get older.

In my day, we had the freedom to have fun in HS, sneak out at lunch to go eat, or even skip first period and try to sneak in past "grandma"......the sole parking lot security guard

I want the same for my girls but protection is priority #1 now, no matter at what expense :(

Amen to that, tough enough kids going through that phase anyway without the thought that "this could happen here because no place is safe".

My friend has two teacher friends, one at that school, and they both told her that every time one of these happens, kids get really antsy and irritable and that they can see the fear on their faces at times. And that was before Santa Fe became another horrifying story.
