Can someone explain why this is happening? Give the man his money.
It is not unreasonable for them to ask for over what Andrew Norwell got from Jacksonville. Martin is clearly the best at his position in the entire league and deserves to be compensated as such.I can see both sides on this one.
I'd like to see him get paid, but it's going to be an awful lot of money for a guard position as well.
And while the Cowboys may be "being cheap", it's equally possible that Martin and his agents are "being greedy" and looking for a contract excessively above top guard pay.
But he is a genius when it comes to contracts. Read it right here.Stephen Jones, as usual thinks he is the smartest salary cap manager in the NFL.
Completely asinine to have this situation drag out.
The stubbornness & bullheadedness of Stephen Jones is becoming an undesirable trait for the Cowboys.

I've mentally prepared myself for the possibility that this might be his last season in Dallas.
I truly think Stephen has issues paying Martin that much money and believes that money is better served elsewhere in other positions than OG.
he’s just a guard.
And yet apparently running with the ones.....
"Some decent showings."
Two good games against two of the worst teams in the league at that time, and one game that will live in infamy as the worst performance by an offensive lineman in team history.
When he wasn't busy being perpetually injured.
Really, it isn't that hard people.
I'd have a real hard time thinking of a player who had earned a big payday more than Martin has.
I can't think of any "other positions" more deserving or where it would be "better served."
In Stephen's mind, who knows. Maybe he thinks Irving is going to explode and he'd rather spend Martin's money on Lawrence and Irving and go cheap at RG, especially if Williams turns out to be a stud LG. Just repeat what they've done the last few years - patchwork the one OG spot.
