How will our inexperienced wide receivers do in 2018?

It reminds me of our running back by committee in 2015.

Which probably means we will be drafting a WR in 1st round in 2019 if not a QB:))
It really doesn't, Greg. This group is young and talented. Our RB by committee in 15 was not.

Diehardblues,

You are being rather pessimistic. There have been a lot of pump up articles about the Cowboys. Unfortunately, I share your sentiment.

Until Dak can beat the defense through the air with 8 in the box, that is the way most will defend against the Cowboys.

Dak is 22-10 against 8 in the box.

Hail fellows, patriots and wards of the court, tell me your gut feelings about our inexperienced (inexperienced to Dallas and the playbook) wide receivers. How will they do in 2018?

If me bean counters at the Farmers Branch rec center are correct, our Cowboys amassed (o_O) 3,326 total yards in 2017, a fair amount if you are a Cleveland fan. Total passing yards by our 16 opponents: 3,746, against our middling to bad secondary.

A quick rundown since 2015:

2015: 3,677 Cowboys passing yards / 3,861 passing yards, opponents
2016: 3,759 Cowboys passing yards / 4,376 passing yards, opponents (horrific pass defense!)
2017: 3,326 Cowboys passing yards / 3,746 passing yards, opponents (improvement in pass defense!)

This so-called passing attack by committee has failure written all over it, imho, mates.
The only good thing about it, ruffians, is that our opponents won't be able to key in on any particular receivers.
The bad thing, cooty fellows? The defenses will stack the line against Zeke and, potentially, shut us down.

Tell me how you think our WR corps will do in 2018, good lads! Will the pressure fall on the poor sap who is our starting TE?
I look for a downturn in total passing yards, to ... say 3,200 total yards for about 200 per yards a game. Some games 150 measly total yards.

What say you, me hearties? Tell me I am overly pessimistic!

Settle down billy bob, passing records will be smashed to smithereenies. You choose whether the record is for fewest yards or most yards. As of today, June 6, pessimism or optimism is a choice having not played a single game except in our heads. My head tells me the passing yards will be somewhere between the lowest ever and the highest ever. You pick the number

As long as the line stays healthy I see success for our wr corps.

We have a group that can get separation and runs good routes.

Looking forward to the season

Remember when we had James McKnight, Quincy Morgan, David Lafleur, Wayne McGarity, Jason Tucker, Reggie Swinton?...yeah that's how I feel again about our current receivers. Let's go ahead and add Skyler green, he can be our tavon austin

I think Hurns, Beasley and Williams (yes I think he remains on the team) are vet players along with Thompson so they do have some experience. I think Hurns is the key player especially early on in the season, if he and Dak can get on the same page with each other I think the offense can have the success they are looking for.

Au contraire. Gallup has more talent in his pinkie than all those guys put together.

He may have the talent but most Rookie WR tend not to be big impact players year 1. Last years top 3 1st rd picks Davis, Williams and Ross accounted for 70 catches 852 yards combined. Clearly the quicker Gallup catches on and develops the better off the Cowboys are but not expecting total greatness for him this season

Why do some insist on being idiots? The worst offense in the NFL last year averaged 280 yards per game, and the OP is saying the Cowboys will average 200 yards per game or less.

He's talking about the Cowboys averaging 132 yards less per game than last year. Why? Because we are missing Dez's 52 ypg and Witten's 35 ypg and nobody will make up any of those yards, and all other receivers and RBs will drop off too?

If he thinks the Cowboys offense will lose some effectiveness, fine. I disagree, but it's not unreasonable for a person to think there could be some difficulties. But to suggest that kind of dramatic drop off - a 40% drop off - is nonsense. The mere fact Zeke will have a full year without all the drama goes against that.

I suspect we sign a veteran WR off waivers when the cuts come. I don't have a ton of confidence in this group, but we shall see.

**Until the receivers can beat single coverage, which they in theory should be better at doing. A QB beats 8-man boxes with pass protection and receivers who can get open quickly. Any Qb would have trouble beating 8-man boxes with pressure in his face and no reliable place to go with the ball. Both of these things should be there this year; if so, then the offense will be highly efficient.

Statistically, 3rd round WRs have a 75% chance of not ending up starting in at least half the games of their career.

Could be the case, I will say I like what I see in Gallup and how he attacks the ball. I see WR's even some vets who will not come back to the ball, they run the rout and wait for the ball to get to them which can allow the DB to undercut it. Of course Gallup has to prove it at this level but I do see talent in Gallup.
