For better or worse.... I do appreciate his point of view though. I think if they knew Witt was gonna retire and Twill was gonna be a buffoon Dez would still be here for at least this year.

I don't think Witten's retirement would have had much of an effect on the Dez decision. For multiple reasons, Bryant wasn't winning enough one-on-ones downfield (neither was Williams), which allowed defenses to concentrate on taking away the underneath receivers. So keeping Bryant wouldn't have been seen as a way to help those young tight ends.

As far as Williams go, it seems to me that Dallas is not as tied to him starting as it was last season. Hurns is the obvious Dez replacement for now, but then we also brought in Gallup, Thompson, Wilson and Austin. If Hurns had been the only addition, then there definitely would be some concern about Williams' run-in. As is, you've got a bunch of other players looking to take his snaps away anyway.

I'd want TO again, at 44, before I'd want Dez.

Okay wait, I take it back. I wouldn't want TO either haha

Deion, Dez and TO should all just meet up and have a gloating party to discuss how great they all used to be. Leave us innocent bystanders out of it.

What I’m talking about is experience and veteran presence. I don’t mean it in the sense that he’s help the young TE’s. He was still a vet who is still productive. It would’ve made the loss of Witt a little easier to swallow especially with the inexperience at the WR position they currently have. You add the lack of experience at TE and it could be disastrous especially for a 3 year QB who is looking to get better.

It’s crazy how this board has done a 180 on Dez. I disagree with Deion. But I’m not about to be all extra about it like you jokers. Remember football is a business.

Not extra. Just so ready to embrace forward movement.

A waste of good cap dollars when you have a below average QB......

Oh, I'm absolutely not comfortable with the unknown. Lots of questions marks that would have made me hesitant to get rid of Dez when we did. But the truth is that the passing game wasn't as good as it needed to be with Bryant as the lead receiver last year. Witten also retiring is pulling the BandAid off quickly instead of slowly. I can't say that's going to turn out to be a bad thing or a good thing ... the only thing I can say is that Dallas has given itself a lot of new options to try to make it a good thing.

To me, it's just premature to say Dallas should go back after Dez because Witten retired and Williams acted irresponsibly. Dallas spent this offseason retooling its receivers, so we need to wait and see how it works out.

Because the timing of his release played no part huh?
It did, but the game and personality of Dez Bryant already cut his potential suitors in half. He wants a 1 yr prove it deal so that eliminates the team most interested in him (Ravens). He needs elite accuracy and an established presence at QB. And he also wants to have a significant role in an offense as he's looking for one more contract next year. How many teams could give him all that even if he was let go at a better time?

This off-season, teams looking for WR help were:

Buffalo
KC
Chicago
Arizona
Baltimore
NY Jets
Colts
Raiders
Washington
New Orleans
San Fran
Seattle
NY Giants
Patriots

Buffalo, Indy, Arizona, NYJ, and Chicago are all near the bottom of the league and have no established QB's. (Andrew Luck being the exception)

KC & Washington went with younger guys with more upside.

The Raiders and Seattle both signed veteran receivers in similar stages of their careers to Dez, but Gruden brought in Nelson as a veteran locker room presence who will do all the technical stuff required from a receiver. While Seattle had the opportunity to sign Dez, but turned to Marshall, who is older and just came off a serious injury.

We all know what happened with Baltimore.

The Niners and Saints have offenses that employ multiple weapons and Dez would have to be a niche player. These are possible spots if he is still interested and the timing of his release has effected neither of those opportunities.

The NYG seem to be a decent option but an Odell/Dez WR room sounds like a headache for an aging/diminishing QB; and they've got a lot of options ahead of him to get touches.

Maybe NE would have scooped him up, but I don't see then using a guy who can only do a few things. Especially when Gronk does those same things but better.

All in all, Dez's game and his theatrics in the Amazon feature have cost him. I do think he'll be on a team this year, but I think it'll take an injury or an acceptance of a lesser role to do so.

I agree pretty much with what you said.

I’m still not of the opinion that Dez was the sole issue. I have a hard time reconciling that fact since every wr had a down year. I know people want to lay all the blame at his feet and there’s a lot of blame there, but nobody has a real answer as to why every single wr had a down year.

So who is to say the passing game wouldn’t have been better this year under the new WR coach with Dez? I’m still not sold on addition by subtraction here. I still think he would’ve helped with the transition.

No... it didn't. I can name 10 WR that if they were cut today would have a job by tomorrow. Teams want and need talented players, and timing does not have any part in that, they get them when they can. If Rodgers was all of sudden cut, do you think he would be unemployed tomorrow? IF A Brown was released, would he be unemployed tomorrow? The list goes on and on.. and all the while, Dez is unemployed. If teams felt like Dez was all world and could benefit them, he would have been signed by now. The fact that he turned down an offer is also hurting him, it's one thing to turn down an offer when you have several on the table, but when its the only one out there and you turn it down, it seems like a prima dona move and teams shy away from that.

But no, him being cut after the first wave or so of FA did not impact his ability to find a job,,, his actual ability is impacting his ability to find a job.

I liked him but there were things I did not like. like Irvin, Dez showed a lot of emotion but unlike Irvin he at times could not control his emotions and seemed to take himself out of the game instead of elevating it to another level.

Oh here we go... You realize he was offered a contract and teams have inquired right? You realize he was cut what a week before the draft? Not after the first wave as you like to call it. If you can’t understand the timing of his release has had an impact on him finding the right situation I don’t know what to tell you.

It’s like the old saying you can lead a horse to water...
