Everyone has “personal problems”. Everyone.

Not everyone is unable to continue their commitment to being a professional because of their personal problems. There are probably a dozen Cowboys players currently fighting through some big personal or family issues and somehow they are able to stay in shape, be on time, and remain completely capable of doing their job well.

This kind of stuff is why David Irving should not get a second contract. This kind of unreliability is a fundamental flaw that should prevent the Cowboys from staying committed to Irving. He has talent, but it takes a lot more than talent to be a successful professional athlete.

Not everyone has the mother of their child accusing them of domestic violence in Goodell's NFL.

I have a slightly different opinion. I work in analytics in upper management. In short I have experience in managing people. I have had success in being patient, helping and mentoring young people as in David’s case. He is young and has not experienced the ups and downs in life as of yet. I find that helping and mentoring these young individuals, I have build great relationships with and earned some real loyalty along the way. Hell its probably the number one reason why I have risen to upper management.

With that said, if David was an older adult I would have zero patience. He should have matured along the way and I just don’t have the time to deal with problem adults. But that he is not!

I would be patient and work toward helping the young man!

I think your way is called being a compassionate human being. Let's not fool ourselves, we are talking about a young African American male trying to get custody of his daughter, that's a lot harder to deal with then it may seem.

I’m all for compassion for employees. Truth is you can be compassionate and understanding leader while still expecting that employees be able to eventually do their job up to expectations. If a person’s personal challenge is so bad they cannot do their job, then the job needs to be set aside.

I’ve worked with many people dealing with very difficult circumstances and had to take some time off. Myself included. That’s totally understandable. But at some point if that person cannot do what the job entails, then what?

Nothing says more than a family man then a guy who posts pictures of himself in a three way. Exceptional role model to his child!

Damn!! A lot of perfect people in this thread! Sometimes life deals you a bad hand and we all deal with issues differently. That is what makes us human. We live and we learn. You hope the trials and tribulations of our lessons make us a better person, but, you can never be perfect.

I'm super thankful I'm not a judgmental close-minded person. I hope the guy can figure out his path in life for HIS sake.

Man get out of here and have some compassion. Irving happens to work in an industry where he’s been afforded time and help by his employer, each situation is different, each employer is different, if they are willing to work with him and help him so be it. It’s nice to know that there are people out here who actually understand everyday life.

I feel the same way. Us non-judgmental open-minded people need to stick together because we're greatly outnumbered by the rest of these idiots that think they're perfect. ;)

Pampering of players is unreal... this is a common issue for many individuals in this country and they can’t let it effect their work

Dude have your lawyer handle it and put your head in the game and let the lawyer do what he’s paid for.. if he can’t handle it pay someone who will make it easy for you

We're not talking about a house deal gone bad, we're talking about his own flesh and blood. Kinda hard to not be invested in the day to day developments of that. Not everyone turns to work as a distraction.

Irving is at mini camp and participating. Where are people coming at with this “do your job” stuff?

I understand people want more out of him for the voluntary stuff. But at the end of the day, it is voluntary. As long as he in shape in time
For camp ready to play then, it should be fine.

sad comment IMO
We talking about millionaires here not someone fighting for survival.
Also the window of opportunity for this team to win is very small and limited. we keep babysitting players we will be stuck in a vicious circle of mediocrity for a long time.
