What a stupid contract. SEVEN YEARS?!?

This contract gives the Cowboys absolutely no flexibility with Martin in the future. It is horribly structured, so he’s here a full 7 years unless we want to eat a Romo-esque cap hit lol.

Jerry always overextending and getting bent over by his players.

Lol, I hope he can pass, catch, rush the passer and defend the run while he's at it.

@Nightman

Anywho, pretty sure it's structured as 3 guaranteed years here with the latter 4 being able to be restructured as needed to free up cap.

Nothing about this is correct. His contract absolutely has flexibility. It can be restructured in 2019 or 2020 to create cap space if needed. It also has no guaranteed salary after 2020 with only $8M in dead cap from bonus proration. It's a 3 year dead with 4 option years, not that anyone expects most of if not all those years to be picked up.

How does a signing bonus work? Is it 20 million on top of his guarantees?

The bonus is included in the guarantees. It is prorated over 5 years (or the length of the deal if shorter than 5). In Zack's case, he has $40M in guarantess, the $20M upfront bonus and then the first $20M in salary, so $2M this year, $10M next year, and $8M in 2020.

So he takes home $40M over next three years? I'm I reading this right?

It is a great deal

The last 4 years are Team Options with no guarantees or Roster Bonuses

They can cut him in 2021 and save 3m on the cap and be done with him.......hopefully that doesn't happen and he plays the whole 7 years
