As one of the youngest teams, if not the youngest, in the league this rings hollow. They have been getting rid of unproductive players, i.e. Dez, Mayoa, Scandrick, Claiborne, etc., etc. The haters rejoice in this Jimmy Johnson take from years ago and celebrate another outlet for their hate. The usual posters are participating.

Whatever Jimmy said is damn true and you better believe it. WE have been a team of excuses. Just because we have started to become young and got rid of unproductive players doesn't mean that EXCUSES persist.

The example is the Eagles. They had many injuries like we did. Yet the won the Superbowl.

All that the Cowboys did was make more excuses - by the head coach and by Jerry. Same excuses, different year. WE are all sick and tired of it.

If you were a Cowboys fan you would be too. Or are you? Maybe your just trolling?

What excuses did Garrett or Jones make. I only remember them owning it. And Johnson is no God. His style of coaching didn't work in Miami. He also bent over backwards keeping troubled players as long as they produced. Remember the Cocain Cowboys? The White House?

Yes there excuse was there was too many injuries and Zeke suspension. It maybe be valid but its still and excuse. And we have allowed these excuses to fester each and every year to the point where we act reactively to them, rather than proactively in fixing the problem.

I expect them to be the in the playoffs this year. Injuries happen to every team. There are no excuses if we don't make it then heads should roll..

Are there links to any quotes from Garrett or Jones regarding the same?

The team was proactive regarding the Zeke suspension. They kept 4 RB on the roster and Smith even stepped up.

The team misevaluated Green but to be fair he had played well at LT before. They had two injuries at LB. **** happens.

This notion the team does nothing proactively is nonsense. They hedged their bets with Prescott who was there before Romo went down. they drafted White. They signed Collins before they really needed him.

Overall they have made the team younger so there is not so much volatility in terms of injury so they can be more predictive.

It may not come from them. But its certainly from the media. Regardless, it still an excuse. Whats worst is that its from the media.

Garrett has been here for more than 9 years. He has nothing to show for. As what the OP has pointed out, (Jimmy) we have become too comfortable with the status quo, like a country club.

Maybe Jimmy's statement hasn't fallen on deaf years? Maybe thats why there have been several changes lately in Dallas that would have otherwise stayed the same?

They have been proactive lately. But that has not been the case in the past. They certainly learned from the Atlanta game and this is why changes are being made. But why now? They should have made several changes many years ago.

Thus I don't take the excuse about injuries or Zeke being suspended. If our FO and coach would have experience in dealing with such matters they could have salvage last season and make things work.

Thats why Im saying they need to be more proactive - not be in a situation where its too little, too late.

That there is a world-class case of whine. I'm almost convinced to invest in cheese stocks.
What part of the FACT of 22 seasons, 2 WC wins, no advancement beyond the NFC semis don’t you grasp?

Other posters trying to come to grips with the FACT of such mediocrity hardly constitutes whining.

You yourself post a lot of nice stats; so what have your stats actually contributed, as far as offering any REAL insight into how the Cowboys might get out of their 22 season, up-and-down, ongoing rut of mediocrity?

Lemme clue ya...the only stat that matters is the final score of the final game.

Enjoy your cheese!

it seems like you didn't watch AoN and think that what fans say is what happens at the Star. Just going down your list:

1) They were telling the players that Zeke's suspension was an opportunity to succeed.
2) Never heard one player or coach make that claim.
3) That was never said by any coach or player. At the coaches meeting, Garrett accepted responsibility and said he had to do better than the Atlanta game.
4) Never heard Sean Lee, Eberflus, Hitchens, Smith, Marinelli, Garrett, etc say that.
5) Never heard anyone say anything about Hardy along those lines at VR or the Star.
6) Did what Dak Prescott accomplish when Romo broke his back completely escape you?
7) That is media spin.
8) That is not an excuse.
9) They didn't tell Zeke that.
10) That is not an excuse either.

What you really seem to fail to understand is the difference between leading the rank and file and leadership. When it comes to the actual production at the ground level in a competitive environment you cannot allow them leeway to do anything less than full effort. That is the reason for "no excuses" because you want them to maximize.

And while leadership needs to hold their personal self to the same standard, they OTOH cannot just ignore the fact that Lee is our best defender and when he gets injured it negatively impacts production. Cause and effect is an inescapable reality. The team drafted and signed LB in response to that reality and its a good thing. Saying no excuses isn't going to make Wilson go above his maximum.

The defense did perform better when Hardy was playing at a high level. Pass rush remains important. They drafted Taco.

When Zeke went down the coaches made it all about the other guys stepping up. The execs were proactive and kept 4 on the roster. Smith stepped up.

I get the frustration of not winning but just saying "no excuses" like that is some magic wand --particularly from this forum-- that is going to change anything is delusional. If you want to get better, you need to look for what was causing you to lose or the other team to win and adjust. A lot of those things you care complaining about, that is precisely what the club did.

And if you think you are in a position to hold anyone in the Cowboys organization accountable by a CZ post then that too is delusional. Jerry Jones et al is not your audience.
LOL!!! Thanks Fuzz.

Eagles also had their challenges last year. They had several injuries that they could have used as excuses. But they kept improvising and kept winning. Them going to the superbowl was not on sheer luck. They did what they needed to do and did it. When was the last time our great and mighty head coach did anything worthy of mentioning?

Exactly right. And that's why I give those excuses zero credence when someone tries to use them for the 2017 Cowboys.

Hey now. We have 3 wild card wins. 1 game may not seem like a lot, but it is a 50% increase in what you are giving us credit for. :muttley:

Vendetta?

The team won SBs back in the early and mid 90s with teams built in conjunction with Jimmy Johnson. That's not to say Jerry gets no credit. He deserves credit as well for those teams. But when one of the key variables was removed - Johnson - and the teams they built finally ran their course, what has the GM/owner done?

Nothing. Since the 1996 SB team the Cowboys, under the guidance of Jones, has made the playoffs only 9 times in 22 seasons. That's pretty abysmal, wouldn't you agree? Over that same 22 year period, they have only 3 playoff wins. That's pretty abysmal, right? They have zero conference title game appearances in 22 years. Again, that's pretty abysmal. Since 1996, 13 different NFC teams have played in at least one NFC conference title game. Only the Lions, Skins, and yes, our Cowboys have not even played in a conference title game over that 22 year period.

And now look at that in the context that the Cowboys are supposed to be one of the elite franchises in this league, one the most important franchises in NFL history.

That's why people have issues with Jerry. He's been the face and the decision maker and the player personnel guy and the picker of coaches that has resulted in a two decade run that puts the Cowboys at the bottom of NFC teams in terms of high level success. It's not because people are jealous of his money or bitter he fired Landry.

It's because he's taken a proud franchise and taken them on a two decade run of futility. How don't people see that?

And what has Jimmy done since he left the Cowboys? The Vikings trade had a lot to do with those 90’s superbowls.

Along those lines, I have yet to find a fan that would want Garrett as their head coach. Up here in Philly, one of the worst days for Eagles fans will be the day Jerry (or Stephen) wises up and shoots Garrett to the moon.
The Eagles fans were excited when the team hired Chip Kelly. They are not experts on head coaches.

Nope...two WC wins since 1996 (Philly in 2010, Detroit in 2015.

Might wanna reboot your abacus.

Yeah, I might want to do that. Most people talk about playoff games since our last SB win in the 1995 season, 22 seasons ago, which would be 3. In the last 21 seasons, we have only had 2 because it wouldn't count the wild card win in the 1996 season, the year after we won the last SB.

They drafted Green 4 years ago now to back up Tyron and replace Parnell. That was proactive. He had played well in the past. He did not that evening.

That is an issue of scouting or coaching not foresight.

They had DMac, Morris, and Smith on the roster. There is not a 1-800-ALLPRORB service. They hedged as well as could be expected.

And if you want to complain about something when their method in your eyes has changed to how you want it then nothing will ever make you happy so why should anyone at any point care when you have an issue?
