Hi all.

How do you all evaluate the stand of education in the US? Since the college and master degree isnt what people compare to real scientific knowlege.

Do you think the general educational level in the US needs to be elevated or are you satisfied with the uneducated people that populate the US these days

Appreciate your opinion.

Education will turn into a political discussion soon enough i think, so i won't comment on that part.

I will say people need to learn to keep the streets clean of garbage and other liter debris in their hometowns, some people are very uncivilized.

Where i live some of the masses have no respect for the cleanliness of their city streets. It's disgusting, police need to start a strict campaign of ticketing anyone littering or not putting their garbage out properly or allowing debris to sit outside their property for long periods of time.

Hope not. It’s a smart (no pun intended) topic. Perhaps participating members will refrain from having their posts being automatically deleted, getting banned from the thread, or worse. Smart topics deserves good site friendly discussion.

Common Core and technology(smartphones) are ruining the system. If you are talking about higher education strictly then I am bowing out.....

Just to.be sure: I talk about the educational level not economical success. Thats a big difference to me.

I have no problem with people who simply aren't intelligent.
I have a problem with self inflicted ignorance. The people who went through at least ten years of school, and still can't write or speak their native language properly irritate me.

I don't consider people to be stupid, simply because they don't know politics, poetry, physics, or whatever else they don't know. That's simply a lack of personal interest. Most people excel in at least one area, in which many others don't, simply because not everyone shares the same interests.

What bothers me most, I think, is when somebody with very limited knowledge tries to berate someone with extensive knowledge, as if knowing more is a bad thing....That's the most ignorant state of being, IMO.

To actually answer your question, yes, I think the educational system in this country is lacking, but I think much of that has to do with the parents, and their hands-off attitudes.

I think College is what High School was 20 years ago

University grades are completely inflated ......they want students to stay and pay for 4 years and want their rankings to remain high...... it is a big business and a big bubble....students today spend less than3 hours a day on academics......it is partying and social media

The High School diploma is also watered down..........college students take remedial math and English just to start...... teaching to the test has had a huge negative impact...... too many administrators and too little learning...... teachers can be overwhelmed..... they need to be teachers, parents, guidance, priests, coaches and friends all in one

How do you all evaluate the stand of education in the US?
I will substitute ‘quality’ for ‘stand’. My personal evaluation has shifted as I have grown older from pieces of paper validating educational level to self-perception of how I see people apply their knowledge in every day activities and endeavors.

For example, computer literacy continues to be low to me. In an age where electronic devices are infused throughout society, use is profound but comprehension is not.

Take a cellphone. A user knows how to use their cell to text, browse the web, etc. However, understanding rudimentary technology that makes it possible to do so is lacking. We are a couple of generations into the computer age and have not, as a society, completely caught up with it on the ground floor.

In answer to the question, I believe the country’s overall quality of applied education hovers around 60%.
Do you think the general educational level in the US needs to be elevated or are you satisfied with the uneducated people that populate the US these days
Elevated? Definitely and significantly but improvement should not start and stop with those deemed illiterate. The country is filled with the intructional indoctrinated but substandard in using it appropriately in given situations. The old adage book smart/common sense comes easily to mind.

teachers can be overwhelmed.....
This is true. Overall teacher/student ratios are very imbalanced. I am bias about it. My mother was a long time educator in the K-12 arena, who slowly witnessed the number of students per teacher grow from manageable to difficult. A number of factors created this obstacle for her and many of her peers. The hurdle continues to grow higher. One of many possible solutions is reduction of class size universally.

How do you fix this without getting political?
