Another "pay the man" poster who won't see cap hell coming and then wonder how it happened.Price is only going to go up. Sign the man long term and get it over with.
There is no way to prove you can stay healthyOk if he wants 5 years then put in a stipulation that if he gets hurt he only gets half of his guarantee or salary. I know that is far fetched and he would never sign a contract like that but he needs to prove he can stay healthy.
We've been burned from both approaches. Optimistically I agree, but it is probably smarter to wait and see if he can do it again. If he doesnt play to the same elite level or misses time he will not command the same amount of money. Hes hanging his hat on a single year of elite production currently.
Cap Hell always was and always will be a myth used by pollyannish fans and cheap ownersAnother "pay the man" poster who won't see cap hell coming and then wonder how it happened.
Nope, Irving gets the franchise tag next year, not Lawrence. D-Law gets paid. And if it comes down to paying one or the other, D-Law is a much better football player than Quack.

Quit being a drama queen. I am hardly a “pay the man” poster who doesn’t care about cap hell.Another "pay the man" poster who won't see cap hell coming and then wonder how it happened.
I know. I just want him to be consistently enough to be on the field. I know he is still young and wants to cash in. Don't blame him. Just very weary of spending money on him since this the first time he has been healthy and the Cowboys have gave contracts to players in the past who have not lived up to their contracts. There is no way to prove you can stay healthy
He could play 16 games next year and get hurt in 2019 and miss the whole year
It makes more sense to give him that sooner rather than later. You can't franchise him again next year and then give him a 5 year deal. Do it now and by the end of the deal he should be in his prime.
No, I a am not that confident. I am not confident any player will remain injury free, but I don’t obsess about the risk of injury. If the team hasn’t seen enough to invest long term at this point, then save the $17 million and move on from him hoping Taco, Gregory and Irving can do the trick. But I don’t want him to prove it, increase his asking price to $20 million, and have the same decision next year when the risk of injury will still be there. You’re that comfident he won’t get hurt again or not deliver as much a he did last year? I’m not.
He can certainly do it and I hope he does but I’d rather pay more next year and be sure of what I have than save money now and end up with a bust. We’re just getting rid of some of those bad contracts, we don’t need to add a new one.
Have no problem with a different opinion, nor do I expect everyone to agree with mine.Man! I'm an automatic 99% 'like' kinda guy on yer posts 'Mr.Italia shingle casing-liner' but,,,don't you think his "up armoured" exhibition of 2017 in a contract year is ,,,perhaps ,a bit puzzling?,,, I'm gonna stand pat on this 'show me' the excelling acceleration in your mastered craft in 2018 mister#90,,,and the fat checkbook will be on that TABLE,,,but NOT until
Fair enough. So you’re that confident he can produce the same types of numbers/stats even though he’s only done it once? No, I a am not that confident. The man has shown the ability to rush the passer and be a beast at it. I have no clue what the future holds, but I do know I don’t want to sit through more seasons searching for someone who can perform like DLaw did last year because I am more worried about cap space and injury. Some people on the team need to get paid and I am fine risking salary cap space on a person with the ability to wreak havoc on the quarterback.Fair enough. So you’re that confident he can produce the same types of numbers/stats even though he’s onky done it once?
I wouldn’t say it’s fair to say the team has seen enough to make a decision which is why I’m in favor of waiting. I understand a lot of players take time to develop but I also understand a lot of players are one year wonders. In this case I’d prefer to err on the side of caution.
