they have a week to work out the deal I hope they do if you are going to day we draft well and don't play in free agency and develop our own players then some of the better ones you develop you have to pay them I would think or then the question would be if you don't is are u just really cheap and not interested in really winning

Cash Flow for Franchise Tag vs 5 year extension

FT at 17m for 2018
Paid weekly over 17 weeks of season starting in September.....1m per week
If healthy and productive he gets tagged again at 20m for 2019....if injured he gets nothing guaranteed
If Tagged again for 2019 he gets 1.2m per week for 17 weeks starting in Sept
He is UFA in 2020 with 0 guarantees for injury or production

5 year Extension with 20m signing bonus and 45m gtd

He gets 20m today when he signs
He gets another 1m over the 17 weeks of the season
He gets 8m check next March as a restructure
He gets another 1m over the 17 weeks of the season
He gets 15m guaranteed for 2020......he gets it upfront as a restructure or over the 17 weeks of the season....................ALL OF THESE ARE GUARANTEED
He is still owed 17m for 2021 and 18m for 2022......no guaranteed but Team Options

I'm not convinced he is top 10 DE. A one year wonder at this point.

Really? My only concern with Lawrence is with his history of back problems. He’s so good with his hands and has developed so steadily otherwise. I’m comfortable signing him at a level just below the top players in the league.

Yeah 17 mil per year. Seems the steroids blew off his brain.

Id give him 5 mills base salary per year. And 20 mill sign bonus on his beloved 5 year contract. Then 250k per sack and another 250k for every game started.

If he gets 16 sacks per seson - which i demand from a player that wants to have that kind of money - then he will be able to earn another 8 mils as bonuses.

So he will be able to earn his 17 mils per year.

Otherwise bye bye dlaw. Hope your back holds another year or two.

So qb pressures, being a key player Tackles/TEs/RBs have to pay extra attention to, run defense and tackles behind the line don't matter if they can't get the 16 sacks you demand? He's an impact player, you don't draft these players, get them to where you want, then say be great elsewhere.

We have been waiting since Charles Haley for a difference maker on the edge. We now have found one that we drafted and groomed, and people want to say he has not shown enough and needs to do it again before we re-sign him? Every big money player is a risk (see OBJ), but the homegrown D Law’s of the world, productive and in their prime, and a hard worker on the practice field, are exactly the type of free agent you lock up long term and pay market value.

Another guy named Demarcus(Ware) says hi....lol.

The back is a big concern. When ranking players, I consider injury history.

Sure. Give it to him. W/ the stipulations that if he gets busted one more time he has to pay it all back.

The man has shown the ability to rush the passer and be a beast at it. I have no clue what the future holds, but I do know I don’t want to sit through more seasons searching for someone who can perform like DLaw did last year because I am more worried about cap space and injury. Some people on the team need to get paid and I am fine risking salary cap space on a person with the ability to wreak havoc on the quarterback.

He has also shown the ability to disappear for three out of his four years and show up in his contract year. He was also a little bit of a ghost in the last half of his one breakout season.

Well let me make a dumb assumption about you. You value Jerry being number 1 in revenue over winning. Gotta save that cap space, huh?

I'm not sure what Jerry has to do with it. Cap space is a finite resource. It's risky to give him a big contract. It's also risky to not pay him as well.

You don't pay top dollar for the unknown. If the team is going to go on who they think he is based on limited impactful play, it should come at a discount from the very top value.

He isn't the best end in the league and should not get paid like he is.

You just want the cap space for the offense. Another fantasy football player.

I don't think it's wise as all to mention performance during contract years as that's proven that MAJORITY of all players fail to show up in their contract year. And if you want to be quick to point out him being a "ghost" please go back, rewatch tape, as it can't be any clearer for yourself, and see how often he along with the rest of the dline was constantly being held. Let's not be so quick to bash a player when you may not fully be aware of the entire situation.

He's not Von Miller. He's good. He may be very good. But it's impossible to be certain of that based on his limited success rate.

Some will say well he was injured in prior years, which is true, but that also makes him damaged goods.

A fair rate is fine. But Sean Lee had a much better track record than Lawrence did and we made him sign a contract that put part of the risk on him. I don't think we should approach Lawrence any differently.

I'm not sure where you came up with that. Cap space is cap space. It can be used anywhere.

Lawrence really hasn't been all world fair his entire contract. But he did play very well in the first half of last season. Other than that he has been nothing special.

You have to consider injury history and health. He's not worth top 5 money based on 4 years worth of production or injury history and you can throw a suspension in there too.

Is he top 10. I don't know. Maybe so. But it's arguable he's not top 10. If you sign him to a contract make it performance based.

No one would have argued to pay Lawrence top 10 money before last year. He was a guy with potential. That's all .

Would it surprise me if he got 16 sacks next year? No. Would it surprise me if he only gets 8? No it wouldn't surprise me at all.
