We all know about the stars of the team and they will be critical to the team's success. But what could hold this team back from really being contenders?

I would suggest that the "holes" are what keep you from advancing in the playoffs, because good teams exploit your weaknesses. Safety depth could be one of those things, but safeties are easier to find than DTs and you can schematically protect one less than stellar safety.

On the other hand, DT, may be a gaping hole in an otherwise solid defense. We not only have a lack of depth there, we seem to not even have a player who is a starting level quality player on the entire team.

How far we can advance may be tied to can any one of Price, Ward, Collins and company give us serviceable play there and can the second rotational guy not totally suck and he exploited like taking candy away from a baby.

Right now this is my biggest concern. If one of our starting linebackers gets a significant injury, and we can't get good DT play we avoid be super soft against the run.

no team is perfect. lets start there.

now, moving along, if safety is easier to find over DTs, why does this position still elude us? Fans have figured this crap out.

your 3rd point has been made moot by reality. The only player on d that matters is Lee. The whole defense will crumble if Lee goes out. Think on the grander scheme when talking of a whole squad. little performances are not going to make the difference at the end of the year.

DT and safety is a problem because the team wants it to be a problem. You will many problems on a team, granted, but when avoiding one position for 20 plus years, plus taking a solid player in the draft over a possible stud is sometimes a good route to go. Thats what Dallas chose to do. Sadly, said solid player will not make the safety problem better and the team is hoping like i am that the safety position is filled. We wont know if this is true or not til the end of the season, but its the same gamble the team has been taking and the results have been staggering, bad. So again, if it didnt work before, lets hope it works this year, am i right?

The keys on defense will fall on the coaches. Can they stream line a good defense, or will they hope a bandaid will suffice? A lot of work is going to have to come from the coaches.

The second key, the more important key is what does the offense do?

We should be a running first team. are we going to continue with that. If so, than the offensive line has to give us more. If Dallas does this, then the rest of the offense falls into line.

If by some chance, the coaches want to make the season harder and go with a passing team, than a lot more has to be sorted out. Will they put Dak to his strengths? Will the WR by committee be successful? What purpose will the new TEs be?

In the first scenario, you run, you run , you use the run to set up the pass, than you worry about teh TEs. everything falls into line.

in the second scenario, you pass, you pass, well, lets hope you arent in a whole, our punter gets a lot of work.

I think we have three reasonably decent safeties. Heath, Frazier and Woods. After that probably crickets unless we slide a corner over to safety. I don't view safety as quite as big a hole as DT.

Do we have one guy out of that 1T group that you have any degree of confidence in? I don't really have one at this point. Collins, Irving, Price will either start the year on injury or suspension. I guess that leaves Jihad Ward. We had better hope he makes a hand at DT, especially early in the year.

Nobody is perfect except for me and you. Sometimes I wonder about you.

I've heard some good about the Kelly youngster. Maybe he can sing louder than the crickets. Only training camp will tell.

If the whole D crumbles when Lee goes down, that makes his point.

defense needs to be able to stop the run, make turnovers and get off the field on 3rd down
offense needs to be unpredictable moving the ball around and able to run, needs to stay away from long down & distance and grind the time of possession
need to find a returner who gives field position and Bailey needs to return to goat status
Garrett needs to be more flexible and innovative like take the kickoff after halftime, little things like that and listen to his young coaches

Run defense and passing offense must improve. We have a pretty good set of pass rushers on defense and an elite RB.

heres how i see it so far. With Kris manning the CBs. it think they give the DL enough time to get the job done. Before our CBs used to play with a big cushion off the WR. If Kris changes that, our DL will have a few more seconds to get stuff done. THat can make a HUGE difference. Am i overly worried, no I feel Rod can run the DL well. If hes regulated to just the DL and let the over all scheme, we should be fine. Let Kris and Bloom run their squads and dont micro manage them.

when you have the number 1 RB in the league, you can do anything, the question is, do you choose to use it correctly.

There's a few teams that would argue who has the best RB in the league.

What we saw last year is that even with the best RB in the league - along with a HoF WR and QB - you can't do anything you want. Not if you need to overcome a mediocre defense.

they can argue it all they want. you put Zeke with most other teams and they ll use him correctly and still sport the best RB in the league.

We chose not to wield it correctly. shocking as that is. And Zeke, much to our FOs surpise, is not going to get younger. Use him and make it worth the while, or jsut remain the laughing stock in the league. Either way, Dallas is in a no win situation if they dont use him correctly.

Stay healthy and hope that our Young group can learn quickly on the job and form good corps whether that be the young WR corp, YoungTE Corp, LB Corp, DT Corp, DE Corp, Secondary and hope our new aquired FA and 2nd Round Olinemen fill out this oline both in starter quality but depth as well.

Stay Healthy...Learn Quickly...work as individual corps to work as a team.
