Skin's TE Jordan Reed 2019?

I know, let's worry about 2018 but hell but we're in the slowest part of the off-season. IF they let him walk, I'm in for a prove-it year, then lock him up.


Jordan Reed - TE - Commanders
NBC Washington reports the Commanders may look to get out of Jordan Reed's contract next offseason.

Reed has three years remaining on his five-year extension. He's one of the best tight ends in the league when on the field, but the Commanders can't afford another injury-prone year after missing 14-of-32 games the last two seasons. Washington can save $6-plus million in cap space from moving on from Reed next offseason. With tight-end friendly Alex Smith replacing Kirk Cousins, there's potential for a mid-career rebound if Reed stays healthy. Reed was limited at OTAs but is expected to be ready for training camp.

Anyone else notice how Philly tried to return the favor by trading up to draft Dallas Goedert just ahead of us.. LOL, jokes on them.. Dallas didn’t even have intentions on drafting him and turned around and drafted an equally talented TE in Dalton Schultz a couple Rds later.. not to mention their TE is named after our team.. bla, hahahaha

Why do you believe in 2019 Reed is so much better than what is on the roster now. Maybe a case would be made for 2018 if Reed was cut, but to salivate over him a year in the future when we don't know that the present players aren't adequate to more than adequate?

Schultz isn't equally talented as Goedert.
Goedert was the #1 TE prospect in the draft.
Don't get me wrong,I am thrilled to get Conner Williams but I really wanted Goedert as well.

Well, I guess will just have to disagree. Hayden Hurst was the overall #1 TE in draft per most pre-draft boards.. not to mention Goedert wasn’t even the 2nd TE drafted. It was well known before the draft, although it was a deep TE class, there just wasn’t much separation in talent. So basically, teams picked the best TE that suit thier particular scheme. Goedert might fair well in Philly based on how they use there TEs. The same can be equally said ab Dalton in Dallas. Heres a snippet of boths draft profile per Walter football.

Goedert: For the NFL, Goedert has the ability to contribute as a receiver. While he will struggle to separate from NFL linebackers or safeties, he can use his size and high-point ability to make catches over defenders. He will be an asset in the red zone with his skills to sky high and make tremendous catches with body control and uncanny one-handed skills. Goedert is adept at finding the soft spot in zone coverage, and his size makes him tough to tackle for defensive backs. Thus, Goedert could be a quality receiving tight end in the pros, although he probably won't be elite given the lack of speed, suddenness, and an ability to separate.

Schultz: : Scouts have told me that they like Schultz and see him as a do-it-all Y tight end. They say that Schultz is a good route-runner, excellent at catching the ball, and a really good blocker. He's a sleeper tight end who could be a steal. In 2017, Stanford used Schultz's blocking skill to help open holes for Bryce Love. Against Notre Dame, Schultz put those well-rounded skills on display by opening holes in the ground game and also making an athletic touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. In the Cardinal's ground-based offense, Schultz totaled 22 receptions for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He is a sleeper prospect who team evaluators really like and could end up being a second-day pick.

It’s way to early to say one player is better than the other, only time will tell.. the only reason Dallas Goedert ranks higher is bc of his receiving stats. Schultz wasn’t used that way at Stanford, yet he was very efficient when the ball came his way. Philly got their guy, Dallas got theirs. I personally think Schultz is a better fit per thier draft profiles.

Side note: in the 2003 draft, folks thought the four TEs drafted before Witten were better players also.. they were wrong.

Tight end is one position we can use a veteran contributor.
Want to use snaps on one project at the position? Yes thats fine, but don't neglect the position because of three projects who all have low draft pedigrees.

They won't be near as good as him when he is on the field, but that's the main issue with the guy.

Witten was no great blocker when he got to the Cowboys, but he turned into a top tight end after a year or two.

I would submit that this team, even with a "veteran contributor", is a year away, at best, from being a serious SB contender, and that's if Dak continues to improve which itself is not guaranteed, so I'd rather we select the best of the current crop of tight ends and develop him this year, or two if he needs it....

I made the mistake of drafting him in my FF league last year. The dude either has a concussion or a hamstring injury. I don't want my Cowboys relying on him week in and week out.

He's a stud obviously when healthy but its just too risky unless he's willing to accept the vet minimum. Which is unlikely.
