More Details on Why Pickens Wore Out His Welcome with Steelers?

Did you guys think AJ Brown would take down the Eagles. How about we keep the draft picks and bring back old Amari Cooper. Can you imagine Cooper, Tolbert, and Mingo with CeeDee. The league would be shaking in their boots.

We are not signing him with any significant money without proof that he can improve his negative behavior issues. Both parties have stated they have no interest in talking about a contract until after the season.

Honestly, I'm sure we didn't trade for him to come here and play poorly to avoid a large cap hit. They would love nothing more than for him to play at an elite level ( ALL-PRO if possible ) and worry about the contract/cap issues after the season. Still will have pretty much 3 options
Offer him a long-term deal ( yes...4-3 years )
Franchise tag ...................$22M range
Let him walk, comp pick.....3rd or 4th round
You speak 100% truth. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean anything. Plus the Cowboys don't need the extra cap space anyway. That's why they don't care if they pay an extra 15M a year on average. They're ok with it.

Of course Pickens doesn't want to sign now, he wants top WR money. I really shouldn't worry about our cap hits if our owners don't.

This quote courtesy of former NFL receiver TJ Houshmandzedah but there are other interesting ones in the article from Tom Pelissero and Jeff Howe of the Athletic.

“George Pickens had stepped over and crossed the line a bit too many times and I know people that play with the Steelers. He’d be late for the team plane that would be flying out to away games multiple times. He’d be late to get on the team bus and they had enough of it,”

fits right in with the cowboys culture of "whatever"..

I can't wait until he starts his Cowboys Podcasts and competes with Parsons

He’s not signing with the Cowboys until they prove to him they can be a serious contender.

Pickens definitely needs to mature and learn better impulse control. But you bring up a fair question around how this has been a recurring theme with Tomlin and WR’s.

I don’t think it’s deflection, I think Tomlin has a more pronounced fixer mentality and believes in his ability to develop the man. But when you invest the time and your message doesn’t seem to be getting through, it can be difficult for a fixer to accept.

Every coach expects a certain degree of conformity but the degree of conformity varies by coach. The WR position is known for having big personalities and diva attitudes, so maybe that partially explains why WR issues seem to be more of a recurring theme with Tomlin v. other teams.
Yes. It’s Tomlin. Not Pickens. Now I feel sorry for Pickens. He’s a victim.

They complain about Pickens and wanted Cooper, and if they signed Cooper, they would complain that Jerry is too cheap and stupid to trade a 3rd for Pickens.
All come back to wanting to complain and complain about Jerry.
Wait until his 1st show to fire up the team on the sidelines as Irvin used to do. Can you imagine the game thread and subsequent threads. The media as well.

You know the drill.

The difference is the Steelers care about these things. Jerry doesn't.
No, the Steelers do not care, as other teams do not either.
Just another way for fans to jump on Jerry.

If the Steelers did not trade for Metcalf, nor got a top WR in the draft. They never would have traded Pickens.

To be totally honest, it does seem likely that Pickens pressed his luck enough to deserve his fate.

Nevertheless, here's wishing upon a star that he manages to control his bad ways with Da 'Boys.

Let's face it. Despite all the good plays he had for them, you can only get away with so much BS.

I believe they traded for Metcalf because they didn't want to keep Pickens long term. If they didn't land Metcalf it's possible they kept Pickens but I believe they were looking to move on from him.
