I'm more excited about Randy Gregory than Taco Charlton

He's done close to nothing when on the field

LOL, well in a real sense of things, there evenly match as far as that statement goes. RG doping himself off the field IMO puts the 2 of then even Steven on the experience scales.

If Taco had duplicated during the first half of the season what he accomplished in the second half he would have ended with around 7 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. That would have been a nice rookie season. DeMarcus Ware had 8 his rookie season.

I can see Taco getting 8-10 this year and stealing the starting RE spot from Tyrone. People may argue that Taco is not a RE but people were also saying that D-Law would be better at RE than LE. We saw how that worked out.

Gregory has a chance this year but perhaps a better chance next year.

What is most sad is that he was drafted over TJ Watt because of his size and his supposedly greater ability to "hold up" at the position. Taco has spent far too much time in the NFL getting rag dolled.

The last few games of the season were encouraging but he is still a question mark. The Lael pancake was just one snap but a former 1st round pick needs more wins in TC. I do not think I have heard anything positive about him from the practices thus far.

Taco was a first round pick. He should be getting a stranglehold on his position as a starter by his second year. Nothing so far indicates he will legitimately earn that this year.

That doesn't mean he won't eventually do that, or that he is just a complete bust. But it sure indicates he was more of a project than you want to see out of a first round pick.

Quite honestly I don't want to hear any of the give him time nonsense or whatever. He has already had his one redshirt nonimpact year. He needs to turn it on this year, period.

This take seems pretty common but I think also goes to show how far off from reality people are.

It's OK to be hopeful for Gregory and we should all hope he turns it around and is able to enjoy a fruitful NFL career.
All that said he's been in the NFL for 3 years. He's played 14 games across 2 seasons and collected 1 sack.

Taco Charlton has played 1 NFL season and appeared in every game(16) collecting 3 sacks.So Taco has been both more productive and more reliable.
And as athletic as Gregory is, Taco is actually the one with the more insane human measurables Guys that size just are very, very rare.

What this tells me is the "Gregory over Taco" fan is likely just not very good with letting things go like the desire for a 250 pound pass rusher on this defense.

Beyond what they've accomplished thus far and what the team commitment was to get them (Taco a recent RD1, Gregory a 3 years ago RD2); you have Taco under contract for 3 years plus a team option for 10Mil in year 4.
He is a team cornerstone.
Gregory is a situational pass rusher who is under contract for 2 seasons with no team options.

He doesn't need to start in year 2 to justify anything.
He is in a pipeline that has produced DLaw, Crawford and others before him.
DLaw had 9 sacks and 16 starts after 3 years.
He just needs to continue to improve and play. His job is to be good enough that they can move on from Crawford or DLaw in a year.
DAL may have the best DE depth in the NFL.
Gregory is very unlikely to ever start here. He's a situational rush guy but can have good value as an R2.

Taco started slowly and got better as the year went on. If he starts this year at or above where he ended last year he will be fine. He physically looks much more imposing. And not sure where Verdict gets that he hasn't looked good...there have been several comments by the talking heads that he is making some noise.

Gregory is the one that never really did anything when he hit the field. Now, that was a while ago and while he was struggling with addiction so it is hard to say what level he was playing at. THe news sounds like he is integrating back into being a football player well. I really think we have to give him a chance to come along slowly on the field and he will get better as the season goes on.

And someone here is hyping Tapper? Really? Tapper? What has he ever shown besides an amazing ability to end up on IR?

You should be excited about Gregory. Best pedigree on the DL. By a lot actually.
