I have been spoiled by our plug and play first round pick O-Line

I've always been worried about his strength at the guard position.

If he gets stronger then he'll be good but I think right now he is susceptible to the bull rush.

The good news is, he can add strength easily. Easier to get stronger than to teach footwork and technique.

Agree but he is such a gym rat that I question how much strength he can still gain.

Hard work in the weight room has kinda been his thing.

Even so, being in the league now, he will have more time and more help to get there. Not saying he will, but no doubting that the NFL strength and conditioning coaches/program > College strength and conditioning coaches/program.

I have been spoiled by our plug and play first round pick O-Line. Fredbeard, Tyron, and Martin.

It was this kids first game but I did not like what Williams was showing. Gave up plenty of pressure. Got Dak sacked. Got turned around. Pushed around. He will probly catch on and be fine. I think Collins took a few to get it. But if this trend continues then I am not sure I want him starting. We have Fleming and Marcus. Even if it’s not there natural position they could plug in there and do better.

Love or hate Dak, he is the best we got and played well. 3 for 3 and a pretty sweet deeper pass for a TD. Those plays will keep ya from stacking a box. Other than that it looked like last year later game plan. O well. It was preseason game 1!!

Again I am not getting down on him but was hoping for a better performance from the hype about that first round quality we found in the second round. And I don’t like his number. The 50s? It just looks like a LB number. I kept thinking who is that? Is Jaylon playing guard. Lol

Bye the bye, Jaylon looks like a beast. What a dramatic difference from last year.

Not worried at all just a little red flag on Williams.

Your thoughts? Don’t jump down my throat people, was just my opening drive observation.
I notice Williams struggling also and have the same thoughts.

At least after this game I wont have to hear anymore how our secondary is going to be one of the best in the NFL this year. LOL

There are definitely some good things about preseason.

I don't know whether they will be or won't be one of the best, but one of my favorite things about preseason is when fans draw hard conclusions based on the first game. :muttley:

Former Cowboy Marcus Spears had some solid insight on Williams.

Said he liked what he saw. He had great movement with his feet and positioning. At this point in career, he said most guys lack the upper body strength to dominate. (not many Zach Martins)

I trust Spears knowledge as a former player and he did awesome breaking the game down.
I agree. spears did an outstanding job commenting on the game. then again, he did play for parcells.

Not only was this his first game, but it's the first preseason game. And we may be spoiled because it usually takes a year or two, and that's for strengthening.

I liked the way he responded after the sack...he fought back...didnt seem to lose his confidence.
I like what he's made of....he's gonna be a good'n.

Tend to agree.

But it was his first NFL action and I think it was expected to see some growing pains. It will be interesting to see how he plays in the next couple of games.

He pretty much had all different kinds of issues last night.......... got out quicked, got out muscled, missed some assignments, blocked the wrong guys, etc.

But all I need him to be come September is competent. I think he can get there.

Williams gave up the inside pressure BUT his man did not bring Dak down. That would be Smiths man. Watch that play again. Our stud LT got beat also.

Blaming Smith there is silly.

Watch the play. Williams got beat off the snap, Prescott had to try to move in the pocket because Williams' guy was in the backfield in a heartbeat. Further, Williams, trying to stay on the block hit Smith and knocked him out of the way of blocking his own guy.

Smith did nothing wrong. That was all Williams.

it even took la'el Collins several games to adjust to switching from guard to tackle last year. the reverse will be true for conner. but i'm not worried in the least. he'll get better weekly.

Its OK to call out certain players. Fan cards are not revoked for it. Smith could have kept his man at bay longer and if he did his man would not have cleaned up Williams mess.

Yes Williams got beat. But Smith didn't do any favors either allowing his man inside too.

He didn't "allow" his man inside. Conor basically chop blocks Tyron out of his block.

I heard Connor Williams did well. This was a welcome to the NFL game. This is one of the reasons I like preseason because you can get your welcome to the NFL moments out before the regular season and possibly stumble on some overlooked talent on your own team or someone elses

Williams is only 21 and will get stronger and waay better. He is going to be a stud

I think people watch one play and judge how a guy played the game. He got beat bad and came back and played pretty solid for his first game
As has been pointed out he needs to add some bulk and strength this off season but it’s easier to make a player stronger than to teach him to play consistently with good technique

That play was all Williams fault. Smith has his guy blocked until Williams whips him out of position diving try to save his own block. It's clear as day if you watch the clip above.

Williams knocks Smith out of position allowing the guy Smith is blocking to cut inside. If Williams never touches Smith, Smith's guy is blocked.

I actually thought where he struggled the most was in the run game. He seemed to make some blocking mistakes, which I think is to be expected from a rookie.
