The team can not fall apart because of 1 injury
It actually begins in the draft. I had hoped when Romo was done Coach G would get an opportunity to draft the heir apparent .

It’s beginning to look like my hope now rest on having a top 5 defense with 8 of the 11 starters 1st and 2nd rounders and 2 others 3rd round.

It’s always about the talent and why our running game became dominant . Great coaching assembles the talent.
Garrett coached Wentz in the senior bowl and he should of went to Jerry and said this is our guy you better move up to secure him! How often does a NFL coach get the chance to have a first hand look at a future NFL franchise QB and work him out and coach him in a game environment. Garrett blew a chance to cement his legacy in Dallas! Every great coach has to take a gamble but Garrett never does because he is always afraid of making a mistake.

Gregg, Pederson looked at film of what Foles did well and changed the game to his positives. He didn't try to force a square peg into a round hole. Ala Cassels, and the other guy... name escapes me now.

Most of us are not throwing in the towel. We are looking at recent history! Last year!!!! This team collapsed last year and failed to make the playoffs after Zeke’s suspension and Tyrone’s back issues, while the Ugles went on to win the Super Bowl with way more injuries than us. Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.
As much as some of you want to blame the overall record last year on Zeke’s suspension it wasn’t nearly as critical as you make ot seem.

It hurt but it’s not like we were gonna make the playoffs even if he wasn’t suspended. Our issues went much deeper then his suspension.

In 2016 when Wentz couldn't get out of his own way because he had no one to throw to and Dak was lighting it up, what were you saying then? Then in 2017 when the roles are reversed Wentz is some great talent because he wins with a great team around him? Yeah, shocker.

Couldn't agree with you more. Zeke was just the final nail in the coffin. It's like breaking your leg trying to run out of a burning house. The leg just sealed your fate, but the house was already on fire. I was a bit surprised Dak had as much success as he did in 2016 with our WRs. I'm surprised we won 8 legit games in 2017. You could make the argument that these guys overachieved. Heck, thinking back they should have beaten the Rams and Packers. With what? Witten and Dez way past their prime. What do we have left to threaten anybody with? Our offense last year looked terrible. There was even a stretch there where it looked like they gave up. I considered last year a disaster and we still went 9-7.

Foles struggled initially after Wentz went down. Most analysts wrote the Eagles off going into the playoffs but their defense rose to the occasion and Foles elevated his game peaking with a MVP performance in Super Bowl.

Pedersen deserves some credit but without a top 5 defense to carry them with a backup QB good enough to start on some teams defintely provided enough talent .

Remember Weeden who couldn’t win a game for us in Romo’s absence went to Houston putting up similar numbers won 3 games because of a top defense support.

I don’t think QB was a priority in 2016 draft. We still thought Romo was it. We used a 4th round pick only as a backup project. Our priority was finding a replacement for Murray.

Jerry had often said even going back to the Manziel rhetoric that he wasn’t drafting a heir apparent until Romo was done.

From what I’ve read, Fred could be back after a couple months which would be right in time for the meat of our schedule. I think we can manage with Looney just fine.

And as far as impact on the offense, at least Zack and Tyron are okay because they have more of an impact on the line imo.
Bayeslife thar might be true but the beard has not missed a game in his career. Wait and see his missing the real games and perhaps that will make a huge dent in our won loss record. Go Cowboys

So per your usual assessment its all Jerry's fault and Garrett skates because Jerry failed to give Garrett enough talent to make him look better than he really is. Check...

I'm not a Garrett fan, but it's hard for me to judge him harshly because of the talent of our players throughout his time with the Cowboys. He's not a great coach, we know that. We also know we've had worse. So where does he land in between?

Give me a single year where we had a decent defense. He's not Don Coryell, so no amount of offense is getting him past 8-8 most of the time. He's had 2 out of 7 good seasons without a defense. One really bad season because we didn't have a quarterback. Heck, in 2013 we had one of the worst defenses in team history! Everybody loves to blow smoke up the Philly coaches butt and conveniently forget they were stacked with talent. This is why I can't go all out in his removal. He has his warts and they have been pointed out ad nauseum. But he may not be as bad as people think. Did Jimmy Johnson suck in 1989? Let's see how he does now that we're acquiring talent on D.

Myself... I was consistent with Wentz.

He was the best QB talent I’ve seen in awhile and he had a normal rookie year.

It was clear as day to me that this was the move.

They coached Wentz at the Senior Bowl and had all the information in the world.

Look, you could be right. I never thought much of Wentz or Goff in the draft. And I didn't watch the Senior bowl. So you can be completely spot on. My point was that this guy was given an opportunity last year with a stacked team and he made the best of it. A lot of QBs can do that too. Heck, Foles came in and picked up where he left off. And in case you haven't noticed, the Cowboys don't make moves like that anymore. They no longer trade up. They no longer get high profile FA's. They do nothing. I realize Jerry made some big mistakes in the past, but I have to believe there is room for smart decisions. Just because you have failed through FA and trades in the past doesn't mean you abandon it altogether.

Bull ****! Wentz biggest issue in 2016 was his WR were dropping way too many balls that hit them in the hands. I saw a lot of WOW! throws from Wentz even then. I like what I saw in Dak but he didnt make any where near the difficult throws that Wentz was making. I started to be skeptical of Dak when the Vikings and Giants really shut down the passing game. Then in 2017 when Denver raped a fully healthy Cowboys team I was just pissed and realized Daks inability to push the ball down the field.

That’s not what I’m saying. Of course Coach G deserves to take some of the criticism. We’d all like a greater HC but I’m not sure that’s a realistic option.

It’s like accepting we aren’t going to have a better GM and front office . How would you present a means to overcome ? My philosophy is much the same for our HC.

I’m not sure why we expect our FO and coaching staff to overcome an average to less than average defense and QB?

And why my emphasis is on surrounding our coaching staff with more talent like a top 5 defense and or QB like Pedersen had.

We have handicaps and obstacles with Jerry’s dysfunctional football operations that calls for a different mindset.

Injuries will happen every year. I believe the 5 starting offensive linemen in Week 1 of the regular season (of all teams combined) average only 13 or 14 games a year. So in an average year you need to expect around 15 games (cumulative) missed by 1 or more of your OL.

Right !

We still will have more talent on OL than most teams.

Amazing more don’t see we have a deeper issue if we need an All World OL to have success on offense.

Every team has some units they lean on more heavily than others. The Cowboys happen to use a run heavy offensive scheme, and a strong O-Line is important to that.

I agree on the dropped passes. I remember one beautifully thrown TD pass a WR dropped. But Wentz did throw some WoW interceptions too. It's when he had a team around him that he excelled. As far as the Denver game, I thought it was pretty obvious our staff didn't have the team ready for that game. You can't put that debacle on one player.

You’re grading a rookie QB way to harsh.

Wentz showed loads of potential as a rookie.
